We are due to travel in about three weeks.
We need US Dollars and South African Rand but need a range of notes and particularly small notes.
Where is the best place to obtain notes of your own choosing. Most of the exchange bureaus seem to simply provide what they have to hand.

We've usually found, for any currency, your hotel may have a small amount of lower denomination notes and, practically, by time you've made a couple of local purchases, you will have sufficient small change and notes.0
