Care Hire excess Mileage Charge

Hi Guys
I hired a car last week and have been charged extra for going over the allocated mileage I was allowed.
Can I claim this back? I bought excess car hire insurance through a third party and wondering if I can claim this back through that.
Also, due to the huge hold on my credit card for renting the car without insurance, I had to buy EXTRA (I know!) insurance through the car rental company to reduce the block to £400. could this possibly cover it as well?

No, you could have likely booked a rental with a higher mileage allowance (it may have cost more initially)I hired a car last week and have been charged extra for going over the allocated mileage I was allowed.

you did not "have to buy" extra insurance. Also, due to the huge hold on my credit card for renting the car without insurance, I had to buy EXTRA (I know!) insurance through the car rental company to reduce the block to £400. could this possibly cover it as well?
Section 6 in Martin's article explains this well https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire
You made a choice not to have the large hold so nobody will reimburse you for that choice
Probably worth reading the policy document for your excess insurance...if you were unable to have a large hold then you probably were best not bothering with the excess policy and just buy the insurance from the rental company0 -
no and no - afraid you'll have to put it down to experience
where was the hire ? its a longtime since I was offered anything other than unlimited mileage0 -
