Wombling our way to wealth in 2018 6th Jan 18 at 9:37 PM
We had a lot of fun on the Wombling in 2017 thread that was started by Bobarella, and I would like to keep track of my wombles again this year.

The rules are pretty flexible; for me, wombles are any products or services I get free, for others it also includes the discounts received. Found money is always a womble

1 cent in Aldi (not a supermarket where I expected to find money on the floor!)
2 rabbits 50 (I was looking for pets for dds, and a lady in the village was giving them away for free. Last year, I only found one in a pet shop, where rabbits were sold for 25 each. Sadly, that one died within 5 weeks).

2 cans of fizzy drink from Eurostar, brought back by a colleague 1

I won't count this as a womble, but need to share my happiness somewhere :
we have an annual maintenance contract for our central heating and hot water installation, which costs 195 (GBP172) per year. This year, because the installation is 5 years old, it needs to be audited (government requirement for all gas installations). Normal cost of audit: 149 excl VAT, cost because of maintenance contract: 40 excl VAT. Advantage: 100.
The maintenance guy replaced 2 parts, which would have cost us 450, but are free under the contract. If we had to call him out because of the defect parts, he would have charged about 160 for showing up and for the time he worked. He also gave us advice to possibly save 22 off our annual bill by making a slight change to our thermostat settings.
    Total advantage: 100 + 450 + 160 + 22 = 732 - 195 (contract) = 537!! (GBP 475).

I'm joining in as it would be good to keep a tally of exactly how much I have save so far. I especially enjoyed reading 2017's thread!

Yesterday I popped into B'n'M and picked up some bits and bobs that I can stash for birthdays and Christmas:
    Huge candles reduced from 10 to 3 bought 2 = 14
    Votive sets reduced from 5 to 1.50 bought 2 = 7

Y/S produce in Mr T for dinner
    Fish pie mix reduced from 4.50 to 0.90 bought 2 = 7.20
Finest red potatoes reduced from 2 to 0.30 = 1.70
    Runner beans reduced from 0.55 to 0.10 = 0.45
    Loose broccoli reduced from 0.60 to 0.06 = 0.54

Students brought in chips for the staff to share as it's the last day of term 1.50 saved

And Mr J had a 13 refund voucher from travel company for train issues.

    That makes..... 35.39
    Happy days

Last night I popped into the supermarket to pick up my y/s bits to top up the fridge. I ended up with two bags of produce and only a few bits that weren't y/s e.g. milk all for 26

Plus I picked up a couple of bits that had vouchers available through apps e.g. washing machine liquid was reduced from 3 to 2 as part of a special offer, but with the voucher claimed it was down to 1 for 26 washes
I did the same with a few other bits and so I now have 5 coming back to me. That made two bags for 21 and to cap it off a 48 saving!!!

    Happy wombling

Our company seem to have discontinued the monthly chair massages

On the positive side: they have tested amenities, and now there are about 3 moving boxes full of all sorts of soaps, shower gels, shower caps, etc to pick through! I have wombled about !!!8364;30 worth of these They were not all tiny bottles, some were half-litre size (R1tuals, even!).

My office is the best place to womble!

They are clearing out the Purchasing offices, and, because they have recently tested lots of items (think of pillows, duvets, flooring, tiling, etc.) there is much that is about to be discarded. The pillows and duvets will go to the storage in the basement and be given away as prizes, auctioned off, or donated, but smaller items are about to be thrown out. I now have:
    - some more amenities
    - 3 pillow cases, 1 of them anti-allergy
    - several small towels and face clothes
    - a pair of hotel slippers (we use them for guests)
    - a bag with pencils and pens
    - 2 small postman bags
    !!!8364;10

I missed out on a crate with all sorts of bottled drinks. I would have checked the drinks before opening them, but I really fancied the purple crate

Also: about 130 company branded notebooks HR were throwing out and 8 black wooden photo frames (ca. 45x60cm) that HR were throwing out. I've been handing out the notebooks to every passer-by in the office, but still have about 130 left. Both notebooks and frames will be shipped to Africa.

I wombled my first A$da receipt at the weekend and gained 0.71 in voucher form.
An apology voucher from Mr T to the tune of 5 in case the service I received over the Xmas period may have not been as expected.
Plus on Saturday we picked up 15 snack sized pizzas plus a host of other bits and pieces that were y/s that saved us 15.
Am putting all my receipts through my apps to maximise cash back - currently have almost enough to cash out 10 on three of them.
Shopmium has a bag of frozen fries for free for the next couple of days so will be off to A$da on the way home to pick them up.

    free-after-rebate N1vea shampoo !!!8364;4,27 (4,99 - 0,72 for the stamp)
free-after-rebate Fa deodorant !!!8364;3,39 - oh no! GRRRRR! I just tried to enter the details into the website, but it's telling me it's the wrong barcode. I wasn't sure in the store, but it was displayed on the special '100% free' shelf with the ads all around it, and the cashier confirmed it was the correct deodorant, and he gave me the activation code. I should have followed my hunches and left it! Now I have to return it, because I'm not prepared to pay !!!8364;3,39 (GBP 2.97) for a small bottle of spray deodorant!

Spent my voucher in A$da this afternoon and picked up loads of y/s bits that will be great for the kids packed lunches and cats. Plus they had a clothing sale on. Ended up spending 66, but saving 45.

Did womble a few receipts, but none of them had enough items on them.

Looking forward to popping into MrT to spend my 5 voucher later on some y/s items. I love a yellow sticker!!

Have also managed to get a few coupons by applying for freebies. So have stashed them in my purse. Making a point of not buying them though unless I actually need them.
