Morning peeps. Hardly slept a wink last night. I have never heard wind like that it is still going now. Schools still closed here. Phoned sister last night to see how she was getting on with going in and out of work . She said it was a nightmare. She is an MLSO in the Western in Edinburgh. She is now staying with her friend a 20 minute walk away from hospital. Sis lives in Corstorphine so there is no chance of her walking in from there. Like me she has Rheumatoid Arthritis so it can agravate it and make it flare up. My left wrist and hand have flared up again so as well as medication sitting with a heat blanket on it. DS is hoping to get home early afternoon so fingers crossed he makes it safely. We are supposed to get more snow over weekend. Feel sorry for gritter drivers as it must be a nightmare for them to try and keep roads clear with so many cars stuck on them. Anyway hope everyone is well and keeping warm.

    Good morning all

Brrrrrrrr! It's really chilly here. Had freezing rain on top of
the snow through the night - absolutely treacherous conditions
out. I was so cold last night I had to put extra blankets on
my bed. Puddy cat is still sending up the zzzzzz's on them!

Just watching ITV and they've been chatting to a lady in
Siberia. She was laughing at the term used over here ('Beast
from the East') - apparently it's fairly warm there at the
moment at -31 and winter temps are usually -50!

I was due a dental appointment today (nothing urgent - just
a couple of new fillings to replace ancient ones) and thankfully
the receptionist rang first thing to say all appointments had
been cancelled due to weather. They've rescheduled
    appointment for end March.

It's unusually quiet here, think everyone's tucked inside keeping
warm apart from some youngsters out enjoying the snow!

That was such a lovely thing to do fire**fly, putting food &
shelters out for the semi feral puddy cats. They must have
been so thankful especially in this type of weather.

Lol at Charlie this morning indie with you having to clear a
spot in the snow for him to use! They've just been
discussing the very same subject on 'This Morning' re dogs
not wanting to 'go' in the snow!

leanfun - it seems years since we've had really bad snow
down my way - definitely no gardening for me at the mo!

    Stay safe and warm all.

Afternoon peeps. Neighbour was down earlier. She is a member of the church that is more or less straight across the road from me. Last two nights they have been open to try and feed and house the homeless. They are open again tonight and over the weekend and she asked if I would go over and help with cooking. They have loads of donations but nothing really fresh. So went over to butchers and got a load of mince and explained to him what it was for and he has donated A full big bag of potatoes, carrots, onions and swede. Also some ham bones. He is also going to shred some suet for me. He is going to run then down in his van. So we can all get mucked in later. Explained to neighbour it will probably around 4/5pm before I can get over as DIL is dropping GK's of till DS gets home. It restore your faith in people. Neighbours hubby is off to town centre with leaflets and police are going to help out if they can. Minister has contacted Social Services and Council so maybe they will get their finger out and do something. I know our Provist very well so have been trying to contact him and see what he can do. His home number is ringing out so I take it he is on duty somewhere . Have left my name and number with his office. (they wont tell me where he is) and I do not have his mobile. Neighbour cannot believe how much I got from butcher. Explained it was the amount of mince I asked for that had him curious lol (10lbs)

They have huge catering pans at church hall leanfun hopefully will not have to lift them from cooker . They also have a 6 burner two oven range. So fingers crossed. Texted DS who phoned me back and he is now on his way back to base to pick up sleeping bags that are not used any more and emergency blankets (think they are those silver ones that are used to keep heat in.) Luckily he had only left 20 minutes before. The guy in charge of the stores is going to see if there is anything else he can have. His boss has ok'd everything so nobody is going to get in to trouble.

    Good morning all

Hope everyone's ok despite the dreadful weather
    conditions of late.

It's actually looking a bit brighter here this morning
and a degree or so warmer. The sun is trying to show
itself and even the birdies are singing away. It
certainly looks a bit more cheerful outside!

May see if I can get out later to get a few provisions in,
although will have to watch my step because it's still
snowy/icy out. Think we had more freezing rain through
    the night.

Hope all went well yesterday rose. I do love to hear
of people/communities coming together in times of need.

I've seen/heard of so many wonderful stories of
kindness over the last few days.

Have a safe day all, please stay warm and take care.

Morning, the snow here has started to thaw and have been told temps will be 6 degrees, so hopefully weather is changing for the better now.The sun is out already.
Well done rose that is a lovely thing to do in your local community and as a ex RN wife i know how they help when it's needed. Seeing and reading how people come together at times like this restores my faith in humanity.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Alfie take care if you go out. I walked around to our coop yesterday morning before it all turned icy.

Snow in garden is beginning to melt but you can see lots of paw prints out there where the foxes have been.

Rose hope all went well yesterday. certainly seemed very bad conditions your way.

Yesterday DD1 arrived here about four from work. Once on the main roads she was ok driving GS home. Later she phoned to ask had we heard about the people getting off the train at Lewisham. They could have been electrocuted. Her train home had stopped at that station so pleased she came home early.

    Take care everyone.

    Morning,

Our snow was about melted and now it has started again. The forecast keeps changing but not supposed to last. We still have the wind although that is "supposed" to stop too.
We don't need anything from shops but had been hoping to get out a walk
as the pavements were clear and no ice.
Poor DS2 and GF still snowed in in Fife.
See lots of seagulls going about this morning so conditions by the sea can't be good.

Great you were going to help the homeless rose but it makes me so angry there are homeless people everywhere in this day and age. Can't believe the Govt or councils can't do something to supply somewhere for them to sleep. My mum always says if she wins the lottery a lot of the money would go to provide shelter for them as she hates the cold.

Well keep warm and safe everyone, surely can't last too much longer!

Snow all clears here yesterday too indie. I think it was the longest spell of snow we have had for years.

Sorry to hear you still have snow Firefly.

    Good morning all

Hope everyone's in fine fettle today.

The snow's disappeared here! Started raining yesterday
afternoon and woke up this morning to a bright and beautiful
    day.

It's so nice to see my garden again! Just sent a photo to my
daughter and she couldn't believe the sudden change in
conditions over just a few days.

They still have snow in Lincs though and she said it's
supposed to be warming up to a balmy 5 degrees up there
    today.

Have a lovely Sunday all and please take care whatever
    your plans.

Snow all gone from here too but expecting rain any time now.
DS2 and gf got dug out of their snow drifts by a tractor yesterday so they are free now. Hope that is the snow over for this year!
Had a walk down to my parents this morning and they seem fine.
Our car has been recalled to get something done to its door catches (or something like that) so we have to take it in tomorrow. We go into Dumfries but never enough to do there while we wait. It usually manages to rain while we are waiting on the car getting something done.
Hope everyone is having a nice day.
