Credit card expiry on car hire deposit. A WARNING!!

I hired a car from Interrent car hire, Palma airport at the beginning of august. I had my own car excess policy.
Interrent would not give me a car until I paid an additional £260 ( with a debit card) because my credit expiry date was 31 august , 2 weeks after my return date. They said I needed at least 6 weeks life on my card!
They were quite happy to use the credit card for all other payments, firrst time I've heard this one!
I hired through rentalcars.com and have spoken to them about this. They have raised an action to refund my cash as there's nothing in t'&c's about this.

We don't need the hassle Be aware of this one !

That would have been my guess, too, except that OP says 'I had my own car excess policy'.

I'm wondering if additional insurance was necessary.

The car hire company cannot depend on your standalone policy, so they apply their excess waiver...the £260, so that you are indemnified against possible loss with the car hire company.
If the six week period is stated in the contract, there is not much that can be done.

So excess waiver, not CDW as you suggested earlier?

I'm none the wiser until/unless the OP lets us know. Only asking in case we can offer advice to the OP.

    Excess Waiver is Super CDW.

    I wrote Super CDW.
