PIP & Income support question.

Options
A relatives Downs syndrome son has just been awarded the enhanced rate PIP for both living & mobility, he is also currently getting Income support.

What she wants to know is will the IS continue after the switch from DLA etc to PIP or will she have to claim again?

I've looked on the web & I can't find anything.

Who is getting the Income Support? The son or the parent?

The son gets it but it's paid to his mother as she acts for him.

Are you sure it's Income Support? Only a few cases where young people get Income Support when disabled.

In any case, the Income Support claim wouldn't stop and no need to reapply.

However, now that he has been awarded PIP mum should notify Income Support in case he is now entitled to (a) disability premium(s).

I'm guessing that the mother gets IS as Carer. Any awards made to the son will not affect her entitlement to IS. From the information given I don't see how the son would have an entitlement to IS.

There are still a few on SDA with an IS top up who have yet to transfer to ESA?

I know this isn't the best way to do things as I'm relaying info from a third party, a bit like Chinese whispers... so thanks to all for your input.

First thing I should have made clear, the son isn't young he's 40 but not capable of acting for himself.

He used to get Attendance allowance + SDA but this changed to DLA + another benefit (mobility?) + Income support (if I remember correctly)

He's recently been awarded the enhanced PIP for both daily living & mobility &, as far as I can tell, is still getting IS.

He's never been on JSA or ESA. What I need to know is does she have to do anything re: IS now he's going to get PIP or is everything automatic? Does IS stop? Does she have to reclaim?

It's hard work I know but thanks for bearing with me.

Could she be referring to Incapacity Benefit?
I was under the impression most had been migrated to ESA but maybe not all yet .

I would suggest the son and his carer visit their local CAB with recent benefits paperwork from the DWP identifying the precise benefits in payment and the amounts, to get a benefits check.
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.

She should report a change of circumstances to Income Support as a matter of course, its for them to decide if there is an impact or not.

I think he must be confused as to what benefits he was/is getting. I've always been told that Attendance Allowance was only for those over 65 years DLA/PIP before that. Also SDA was paid in addition to DLA as I got it for 20 plus years and I'm still getting it now on top of my DLA (now it's on top of PIP).
My carer gets IS on top of the carers but the IS is her claim and nothing to do with me. As has been said before a visit to CAB or a call to welfare rights is needed.
