Without wishing to be contrary, I'm afraid I'll have to be anyway - When the account was opened it was explained to me by the member of staff at the branch that the policy had changed.
He opened the account, told me the bankruptcy marker was already "showing" and that internet and mobile banking was now available to undischargeds and had been for a couple of weeks now.

He got the App up and running for me there and then. Really the internet/mobile banking is just a bit of a bonus anyway. Since Barclays are the only bank currently willing to entertain opening accounts for undischargeds, whether or not you get either is therefore a bit of moot point.

Perhaps I'm "special" or something, but it works for me! :p

For anyone interested, contrary to the statements by some on this thread, I'm 3 months into my bankruptcy and my Barclays Mobile Banking and Contactless Visa Debit card are all still working perfectly. Very pleased with Barclays, and the App is far better than any other I've encountered. One can actually set up new payees on it, unlike other banks where you can only do such on the full website.
  • I have been bankrupt for a few weeks. I opened the basic Barclays in December once my bankruptcy was in place Barclays closed the account. I have however got a nationwide flexbasic with Internet and mobile banking and a Yorkshire bank one as well with the same services. So it looks like the new changes to basic account availability has made a real difference to undischarged bankrupts
  • I'm 2 months discharged now, and my mobile and online banking worked throughout. I've been with Barclays for 9 years and they've been great.
  • I had EXACTLY the same experience as fraggle. Very frustrating.
  • Nationwide however, have been fantastic.

It used to be, until this development. Which is a proper bank account. The only things missing are:
    1. Cheque book - Useless in the modern age so pointless.
    2. Overdraft - Not going there again, ever. Earn what you spend. Spend what you earn.

    All really good news. :)
I waited until the day and went straight from court into Barclays and made an appointment on my way home explaining I had just been made bankrupt. Then I was seen by a well informed great lady who gave me all the details I needed to have everything paid into my new basic account and the card came quickly, I was expecting to not be able to use any facilities but could bank online and had a card reader etc., straight away. Although I had expected all this to be cut off it wasn't and like you, apart from cheque book (hadn't used one in years) and overdraft (will never use) I was fully-functioning and not a problem in sight.
That was nearly a year ago and all thanks to advice I gained from here, take a bow :A

I remember I was told on here that open a Co-op basic account before bankruptcy and they will not close it or open a Barclays basic after bankruptcy and you will be ok. I chose Barclays and took my bankruptcy papers and maybe that is why it all went well. I know circumstances with different banks are changing all the time which is good news :j
