Barclays Online & Mobile Banking - Woo-Hoo!!!!

Options
My BR was formalised 2 weeks ago. Needed a new bank account and finally got an appointment today - New account opened up on the spot by a very friendly, helpful and well informed member of staff at one of my local branches who supplied:

1. Sortcode and Account number immediately.
2. Online banking login details
3. Got the iPhone App up and running for me.

Apparently Barclays have in the last week finally sorted the "software glitch" that wouldn't enable Internet banking for undischargeds.

Also available as of the same update, a proper contactless Visa Debit card which is winging its way to me.

Just one point - The information on Barclays website is a little lacking in some areas - A Cashcard account can ONLY be opened in branch. The branches operate an appointments system - You can't just walk in and be seen. Telephoning the callcentre to make an appointment is a waste of time. When I tried to on Friday I was met with a message saying wait times to speak to first level staff were in excess of 10 minutes.

So expect to drop into your branch to make the appointment one day, and then go back to open the account a few days after that. A pain when one lives rurally and only learned this by wasting 15 miles of fuel and car parking last week. To the surly unhelpful blob behind the counter in the branch I went to first (and never will again), whatever's going on in my life at the moment, it can't be nearly as bad as what's happening in yours!

Any how, the lovely chap I saw today in a different branch, plus the proper banking facilities now available to us undischargeds has in my eyes at least, redeemed their brand.

  • It must be an absolute nightmare not being able to have a proper bank account when you're BR.

It used to be, until this development. Which is a proper bank account. The only things missing are:
    1. Cheque book - Useless in the modern age so pointless.
    2. Overdraft - Not going there again, ever. Earn what you spend. Spend what you earn.
  • Could I open this acount ready for when I do my BR but not actually use it yet? (Barclaycard is one of my creditors)
  • Daisy- yes you can. Barclays will open the account for you even if you have any debt with them.

OP- has their policy definitely changed? I have a bankruptcy marker on my cash card account that stops me using mobile banking. I tried to set it up this morning and it still doesn't work!

  • Called Barclays insolvency team and they confirmed if you are undischarged you can now have ONLINE banking ONLY - not mobile and/or telephone banking.

I'm guessing if new cash card accounts are opened before bankruptcy they won't block mobile and telephone banking once bankruptcy happens

Frustrating but I still don't get why Barclays won't allow the mobile banking app to undischarged bankrupts. Santander Natwest Rbs Halifax lloyds and TSB have all allowed me to continue using mobile banking.

I have a cash card account and held it pre-bankruptcy, Barclays restricted my access to mobile banking. The thread opener is either in for an awakening shortly when Barclays place the bankrupt marker on the new account in turn blocking mobile banking services. That or Barclays have given this person a new fee free basic account this not a cash card account.

My 6yrs are up in a months time. I too have always had online banking with the Coop as described. I admit its about 24hrs behind in certain aspects but works well.
