income support interview? want bank statements etc

Options
hi all

I've been on income support since January. on my own with 3 children my youngest has been recently diagnosed with cerebral palsy

I've had a I/s checks over the phone in the summer and have now had a letter asking me to go for a interview

they have requests I take photo I'd, bank statements and utility bills

I have no problem providing these as I have nothing to hide however I'm getting pretty nervous over it I don't understand why they want all this now almost a year later

my youngest has just been awarded dla and so my tax credits has now changed could this be what all this is about? I have called I/s to inform them of his dla and they said they'd make a note of it but that it won't affect anything

can someone put my mind at rest please I have to wait until next week and I'm getting pretty stressed now

If you haven't done anything wrong you have nothing to worry about. Your not the first to ask that question in the last few weeks, it seems they are just checking everything is in order and you are on the correct benefits for your situation, don't panic.

thanks I really don't have anything to hide lol just have so much going on with my youngest I didn't need this on top of everything else

as dla don't take mobility into account until their 3 he gets the lowest amount which means I can't claim carers though I hope to in the future

Honestly don't worry... if it plays on your mind give them a call they will let you know why you're being called in.

Did you inform tax credits once your child received DLA, you may qualify for extra tax credits due to disability.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

If you receive higher or middle rate care components of DLA, you will get extra tax credits.

If I was you, I'd contact SCOPE to see if the DLA decision is correct. It may be, but as the award is assessed on whether your child has higher needs than those expected of a non affected three year old, I'd wonder if the decision is open to appeal. In my case (with an older child), my application was refused at first, but I reworded my case (honestly) when appealing and was successful.

A person would receive extra child tax credits (disabled child element) if any component of DLA is awarded, if HRC was awarded they would also receive the severe disability element.

I do think that it would be a good idea to ring and ask what this is all about. At least that means that you are prepared.

One of the most common reasons is that they are investigating whether you have someone living with you. This is often flagged up by that person's official documents having your address on them.

    Could this has happened?

Don't know your circumstances but if you separated from a partner earlier then could they have left some of their documents with your address on them?driving licence? bank account/car loan? etc etc Do you get any mail for them coming to the house?

Do you have any regular visits from a friend who stays overnight?

Not accusing, just giving a 'heads up' because, as I said, this is one of the most common reasons for an interview.

Please phone and then you will know.

thanks everyone my youngest is only 19 months and as said they won't take his mobility into account until he is 3.

unless it's junk mail which I send back return to sender I don't get any mail for my ex.

he's only stayed two nights one was Halloween and the other was bonfire night so my eldest two could go out

I don't have any family near me and all my friends have their own kids so thry couldn't babysit

he does spend time with Time with them at my house (a few hrs at the weekend) be cause he still can't afford to carpet his flat and it's too dangerous for he youngest to crawl around in

I have NOTHING to hide so should have nothing to worry about but I'm a natural worrier and just want to get it over with

Does your ex partner have any financial ties to your property such as bank accounts, name on utility bills, work contact address, passport, driving licence.

All the above could flag up with DWP.

no nothing that I know off I know def the bank etc have all been changed because I remember him moaning about needing I'd etc he doesn't drive so that's not an issue

I think it must be because my boy now gets dla. that's the only thing that's changed since I started claiming.
