Conservatory

We currently have a 20ft sngle storey flat roof extension as our kitchen with a ver dated conservatory attached to that - probably stretching around 15ft across the house and then approx 7ft in width.
We are looking to upgrade this and have a new part brick conservatory built that we can use as a family room all year round - ie with good furnishings, radiator, lcd tv, etc.
Can anybody recommend any good, reliable companies that they have used?
Would I be resticted as to the type of conservatory I could have roof wise as I would ne adding it to an existing flat roof extension? Any ideas on what costs would be approximately.
Thanks in advance

I am about to have a replacement conservatory the same size as yours but I have already got a wall I am keeping. We are paying £5000 for it - we had a nightmare with the big companies when quoting and instead have used a local company with excellent reputation, established 20 years etc etc.
Hope this is a little help. Don't get Anglian round to quote unless you are a little old lady and very lonely therefore wanting company for several hours!!

We went for an extension rather than a consevatory, with a shallow sloping tiled roof built over the flat roof of the original small extension. This allowed us to put extra insulation in the ceiling for all year round use, and gave us an upstairs fire escape route over the tiles as well. Having a loft crawlspace enabled me to install an internal TV aerial at the back of the house. Cost about £8000 which was comparable with a conservatory of the same size.
We'm in Zummerzet so no help with recomendations.

I've yet to use these guys but I was well happy with the quote for an Edwardian
dwarf wall with six windows and a decent roof £2587 inc vat and delivery.

I can recommend Amdega - we linked an outhouse to the kitchen with one of theirs and it worked out surprisingly good value - cheaper than a number of local hardwood firms after we squeezed them down - I think we ordered it at the end of January which might have been a good time.

We are currently having an Amdega installed through Portland Direct (from what I understand Amdega provide their timber conservatories). You buy the conservatory through Portland, and they recommended me a local installer.

Service has been excellent and the price for a timber conservatory beat all the uPVC ones by a long way.

We have had nightmare with Amdega. It took them 5 attempts to build our conservatory and then they didn't even finish the wood properly so our builder had to rub down and seal before painting. We paid 90% up front in August 2005 and didn't get our conservatory finished until March 2006. They 'very generously' let us off 5% of the final bill due to the delays but are taking us to court for the final 5%. But we had to pay more than that to our builder for the extra work so do not see why we should pay twice! We have threats of debt collectors coming to our house. Stress levels have been exceedingly high. Now we learn we're not alone. Dozens of others have suffered similarly. Guess we're lucky our conservatory doesn't leak! They are a nightmare - don't touch them with a barge pole!
