Have a scoot round the website of the Guild of Master Craftsmen at https://www.findacraftsman.com. All their members are vetted and it does cut down the chance of cowboys. All ways ask for recommendations and see some before and after photos. Ask for at least three jobs that you can visit and inspect the work as well as discuss with the owner of the property.
We had a 5m x 3m conservatory done a couple of years back by a local firm. We had a L shaped space to fill between our boundary and an extended lounge wall, so they only had to build a dwarf wall at the front, and a wall to the side with opening fan lights against the boundary. We had a victorian style box gutter roof. The job cost about 9K all in. We had two double rads fitted and use it every day unless it is raining heavily, because of noise!
Best 9k we have spent.

I think the problem is with many dedicated conservatory suppliers is that they supply the conservatory and use local contractors to do the installation.
I had a conservatory put up last year; after shopping around I went to Leekes, who had previously done my kitchen - in a very satisfactory way !
The conservatory was erected whilst we were away on holiday. When we saw it I was appalled ! They had got the measurements wrong for the cavity tray and had taken out brickwork about 2 feet higher up than was needed. They had replaced the brickwork in the most amateurish manner - the courses/bricks weren't horizontal, they had somehow managed to insert half bricks that weren't there in the first place so that the "perps" were above each other. Then they had tried to hide some of this with a piece of flashing so big that it would have re-roofed St Pauls !
There were dozens of other faults, many of which were minor but just made the whole thing look shoddy. Including all the cardboard packing which had just been dumped in the garden.
I had arranged to buy the conservatory on a 9 months interest free offer - payments to start 9 months ( I intended to pay in full at this point)after I had accepted the work. Leekes informed the finance company that I had accepted the work - while I was in Florida !
I complained to the store and I have to say their response was pathetic, it was only when I got the MD of Leekes involved was the thing sorted out. The brickwork has been re-done and all the defects sorted out and I am very happy with the conservatory now.
A word of praise for Black Horse Finance, I copied all my correspondence to them. They immediately got involved, even offering to send out one of their QA staff if I still wasn't happy.
The moral is - to some extent you are buying a pig in poke when you get a conservatory, whoever you get it from.
When you finally get someone in - watch them like a hawk !0
