drydensfairfax solicitors letter

Hi guys this is my first post on here and I really need some advice. About 4 or 5 years ago I received a letter from Max Recovery saying I owed them £4419.11 but I didn't need to respond to the letter. Now I KNOW I dont owe this money, old credit cards and loans that i had were all paid off, the year after I received another letter from them saying exactly the same but I also received another one saying I owed them 1362.98 as well!!! Anyway this went on for about 4 years and I have now received 2 letters from drydensfairfax saying that I now owe them the money and to contact them immediately to discuss repayment!!! One of the letters refered to me as Mrs and the other was Ms (i'm a miss). I'm trying to get a copy of my credit report to see if the debt is on there, i'm very confused.

OK so I've just got my credit report from Equifax and there is no sign of these debts!! It says that they stay on for 6 years after they are settled. The oldest credit agreement on there is for a loan I took out in 2006 that I settled in 2008! So IF I did owe this money (which I honestly dont think I do) it would be over 6 years old anyway, therefore I wouldnt have to pay it back right?0

Max Recovery buy up debts that are covered by IVAs and bankruptcy. Which is probably why they would have said there was no need to respond. They would just sit back and collect any money the IVA or trustee from the bankruptcy paid out.
Obviously, if you weren't in an IVA or BR, and they are getting the Mrs/Ms wrong then seems a case of mistaken identity.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks for that, so you think I should just ignore the letter? If I did owe this money it would be on my credit report right?0

I would imagine it would show on there as a missed payment, and would definately affect your credit rating so i wouldn't worry about it.:DDEBT FREE AND PROUD'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt'0 -

If you contact them they will commence harassment, you do not "explain" anything to these bottom feeders, once they get their claws in they hope you will pay something for them to stop the treatment, many do.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I have received another letter from drydensfair fax saying that as I have not responded to the letter their instructions are now to commence further action and they may. without further notice, issue proceedings through the court. Please someone help, i'm getting really stressed out about this, there is deffinately nothing on my credit report about this. Should I just call them and offer them so much a month repayment?0

I know it's stressful but don't offer any form of repayment for a debt you don't think you owe - this will be taken as an admission of it being yours. There are template 'prove it' letters you can send to force them to prove that the debt belongs to you - I'm sure someone will be along with one shortly as I'm not sure where they're kept; but didn't want to read and leave you panicking. Don't worry, this will get sorted and the burden of proof's on them, not you.
As an aside, do you think it's possible you've been a victim of identity fraud at any point (although I expect there would be some indication on your credit report if you had). I ask because several years ago I started getting letters from DCAs with my name but calling me 'Mrs'... it later transpired that a former housemate had been stealing my mail and had set up landline, sky, etc in my name after I'd moved out  It was eventually sorted but was absolutely infuriating at the time.0 -
Thanks for your reply Amy, if it was identity fraud wouldn't I have had bills or something coming to my house? What would be the worst that this company can do? Issue a CCJ?0
