Hmm, I wonder what percentage of cars will actually pass ?
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)
  • Was 35.00 at mine, too. Mine only failed on wipers which I already asked them to replace anyhow. No complaints there.

    Good deal so heat added.

Makes me laugh when some people assume Halfrords Autocentre are dreadful nationwide simply because they had a bad experience with their local garage or they failed an MOT. Any negative comments could be levied against ANY garage.

A half price MOT is a good deal IMO, end of.

Just used them for second year in a row, will use them again they have always been very helpful including investigating why a bulb wasnt working when replaced and fixing the problem at no charge.

Wrong, wrong, and so wrong it's not funny!

MOT's cost X amount to do. The average garage would charge £30 per hour labour and the MOT takes about an hour, so 'costs' the garage £30. If you're paying standard price of £54.85, they make a small profit.

They'd actually make a slight loss on a "half-price" MOT. The only way a large chain such as this would actually make a profit is if X percentage of cars 'failed' and needed something repaired which the garage conveniently stocks. Last time I looked Halford's AutoCentre were not a charity....

The only way you can be sure you're not getting done is to use an MOT test centre which isn't part of a garage and doesn't do repairs on site (or at his mate's place next door).

I use Halfords (was Nationwide Autocentre until 2years ago) every year, as it's always been half price to book online. It's sailed through every year with no extra charge until this year when needed one headlight realigning, and I had been wondering why it was not throwing much light for a few weeks. They didn't chatge a retest fee or anything.

In short, I've been happy with them, I think it's like a supermarket running loss leaders to get you in through the door and used to shopping there - they hope you'll use them as your servicing and repairs garage, where the real money is.

have used our local centre for both cars 3 or 4 years now no complaints. Just tried to book major service and mot for the end of june at a cost of £255 but was told you now have to pay up front. Told them thanks but no thanks, thats one way to loose loyal business then.

My local Halfords Autocentre are certainly better than the dreaded Kwik Fit! I had my car MOT'd at Just MOT's then took it to them for servicing. Used this deal to get a £79 Interim service http://www.halfordsautocentres.com/en-gb/Landing-Page---Reminder-Letters/servicesave/ and got 8% cash back by going through Quidco.

Would I get my car MOT'd through them? Probably not. Despite what others say, years of having had cars MOT'd (although usually through Main dealers) have taught me that they're not unbiased, and will often look to fail a car rather than pass it. Which is why I like Just MOT's, they don't do repairs!
