paying a Halifax Credit Card bill online

OK I have a Halifax current account and a Halifax Credit Card, I want to pay the bill online. You'd think it would be very simple but no, it appears I have to set up a payment, is this correct? Do I put my credit card number in as the reference?

It all seems too wishy washy, not very clear. You'd think I could just select my card from a drop down menu and select "pay bill"...

Yes, I think you have to set it up once, but then it will appear in a drop-down. I go to Make a payment and then 'Set up a new recipient'. Once this is done once it will appear in the drop down for 'an existing recipient'.

Thanks. It would be nice if they'd have put it there automatically.

Slickster's right - you have to set up a new recipient.

I agree with you that it would be good to be able to treat it like any other account in your list that you see in 'My Accounts' when you login, and just transfer cash to it. I really like the Halifax website, except the way it treats its own credit cards. This makes me think they (savings/current accounts and credit card accounts) are running on different computer systems and haven't been fully integrated.
  • I had exactly the same question as Spaceboy, but I'm still confused about how to set up my credit card as a new recipient, because it asks for 'account number' (the space isn't long enough to enter the credit card number), and 'sort code', neither of which apply to a credit card, surely? My credit card doesn't have either on, anyway! Do I just enter my current account details, in which case where does the credit card number go?

I consider myself relatively intelligent, but I really don't understand how this is meant to be set up! Can someone just let me know what to fill in where please? I'd be eternally grateful!

    Thank you!

You could be right here.. I went into a Halifax branch to ask if they could check if a payment to my credit card had been received but was told that they cannot access credit card details and I would have to either call or go online so I guess they must be on different systems.. Oh Well :)

Like Gizmo says - The Halifax Card Service or Halifax Credit Card or whatever it's called these days does have it's own accoutn number and sort code for the account, then you put your own card number in as the reference so that's it's allocated correctly. Search for it in the list of people you can pay, then once you've done it once it's there for future :)

I always pay a £1 to new payees to make sure it gets to the right place before making a larger payment.

Well that was uncalled for, Sharpy2010. If that's your idea of being 'especially nice', you might want to invest in a new dictionary.

The other thing I find surprising about this is that any payments made from a Halifax Current Account to a Halifax Credit Card take a day or more to appear on the credit card account. I'd expect it to be virtually instant these days - especially as I can send money from Halifax to Barclays, a totally separate bank, and it arrives within minutes.
