Morning folks,

I have just received a notice in for my husband's car. He had a flat tyre in Lancaster services a couple of weeks ago. The weather was a nightmare and he was worried about driving 150 miles to Glasgow on the spare tyre, so as a result, he was there for 4 hours. He was travelling home from his work in Surrey, the total journey time was 13 hours due to the terrible conditions and the flat tyre, so this will be the icing in the cake for him.

I don't know an awful lot about these notices, but just enough to think that it's the correct thing to ignore these letters? I could appeal as he has a legitimate reason for hanging about the service area for 4 hours.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello Lynne,

Just ignore these clowns and their unenforceable penalties. You will receive several letters from them making all sorts of demands but don't respond to them.

A loss to sue for regarding an overstay in a free car park is zero, so they have no losses to sue on. Ignore then ignore some more

If you or your husband worry about this and the letters from debt collectors (which are hot air only), then show him the Watchdog clip on the sticky 'Welcome, please read before posting' and also look at the top sticky 'PPC letters, what to expect'.

Job done, scam fully understood by you both, hopefully.

Then you can just laugh and play PPC snap with each matching letter when it arrives, and see when you are at the end of the mail scam. :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

There is no appeal, it is part of the scam to save them £2.50 in buying your private data from DVLA.
It will be rejected and you will be put on the live bite list for extra harassment.
Beware, this is a scam that impersonates authority and it can look very convincing with fake debt collectors and fake solicitors letters.
The best advice in the house is to ignore them and stay ignoring them until they put up or shut up.

Just got a `Xmas` card from Parking eye for unpaid parking in the local hospital while waiting for the ma in law having treatment.
It went in the bin in protest to arriving late :D
  • Thanks everyone,

Rest assured, I won't be worrying about any letters that drop through the letterbox. I'll keep a hold of them to see how many they send to us, a waste of time for them lol. x

PPCs say its carpark management, BPA say its raising standards..... we all know its just about raking in the revenue.

Although it could be argued that the landowner suffered a small loss of whatever the parking charge is for 2 to 24 hours (the one you normally have to pay via a 0870 number on a mobile-phone to play games with a stupid automatic voice system), but that loss would belong to the landowner and not some 3rd party contractor, which you can safety ignore.

If I was PM, one of the first things I would do is get rid of the 2 hours "free" parking limit at motorway service stations

As I have said before, we only seem to get this stupid and artificial limit in this country. If you travel on any motorway on the continent there are are no such restrictions on how long you can park.
