Estate agent is charging more Power bill..

Hi,
I have lived in a property for 6 months. And the property is 1 bed flat (small). The heater is through GAS. The electricity is only for lights, Cooker. I am full time employee. Hence I spent only full day in the weekends. At end of six months the estate agent is asking for 180 GBP as electricity bill (30GBP per month) to deduct from the deposit.
The electricity is through British GAS.

Could you please advice me the quote asked by agent is justifiable ? And if not what should I do to proceed further ?

    Welcome to the forum.

    It is illegal to make a profit from re-selling gas and electricity.

    How much was the gas?

    You say electricity was for 'Lights and cooker.' What about TV, computer, hoover, fridge/freezer, was there a washing machine? Dryer?

    £30 is fairly reasonable for a monthly elec. again, id ask the estate agent the tariff your on, and the KwPh rates, then id call BG and check.
    Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

    Sorry I missed few items. The electricity covers Fridge (No Freezer), Washing machine, Laptop, hover, Cooker and lights. And there is no TV, Dryer, FAN, Air Cooler.
    The GAS bill is 20 quid per month which I paid directly to British GAS based on the bill given.

    Ok Thanks. Do you mean Kwh rates and tariff I can ask for ?

    Frankly £30 for that lot - especially Dryer and air cooler - seems reasonable.

    Sorry I didn't catch your point.. no dryer and air cooler used. 30£ is high or reasonable ?

    £30 monthly is highish but not excessive IMO.

    The LL should provide you with an official bill which should show meter readings and per unit price, what does it say?

    If the block of flats dont have individual meters then the LL will use a formula to split the total consumption between the flats, again they should advise you how they do that. I typical method is the area of the flats (m2). The problem with this is that is takes no account of high/low users so someone with the smallest flat but loads of elec gadgets/heaters/etc/etc will pay less than some in a slightly larger flat who is very frugal.

    The agent can not re-sell energy legally, but is entirely within the law when charging an admin fee, handling charge or a number of other costs. Without seeing the lease contract, all comments are entirely speculative.
