first choice compensation

has any one successfully got decent compensation out of first choice?? I recently stayed at the brand new coral sea splash resort in egypt, u may have seen the hotel a few weeks back on bbc watchdog, it basically opened late and when we did arrive there was a lot of work still going on and the actual hotel was nothing like the brochure advertised. i feel i have a case for mis sale of the holiday as i may aswell have booked an allocation on arrival- just wandered if any one has managed it???

Yes, last summer we went to Menorca and stayed in a First Choice Hotel for 10 days, we booked the flight seperately. Whilst we were there the air conditioning in the room was poor/non exsistant, this did not really bother us too much and we never complained, but saw quite a few others complaining.
Upon our return I sent a complaint to First Choice (by email) and explained that if the food had been horrible at the hotel we could have eaten elsewhere or if the pool was dirty we could have gone on the beach or to a water park but when the air conditioning does not work as it should you are stuck with it all night.
I got an automatic reply saying they would look into it and I would have a response within X number of weeks. I forgot all about it and then about 6 weeks later I got a phone call out of the blue from a nice lady at First Choice who was very understanding and she offered me either a cheque for £250 or a travel voucher for £300! I was amazed and accepted the travel voucher thank you very much.

As a follow up we have had 2 trips with them since and we are off to Majorca with them next week so perhaps their £300 was a cheap way of buying some loyalty because it does affect my decisions regarding holidays!

So by your own admission you were hardly bothered by the lack of air-con yet you saw others complaining (who perhaps really were affected by it) and you jumped on the old compo bandwagon? Excellent!

Yes. Paid for air con, did not get air con, wether I was bothered or how much I was bothered is immaterial.

"did not really bother us too much" is comparative. It should not have bothered us at all.

It should not have been an issue.

Is this any clearer for you?

    £300 voucher - Excellent!

And does your (trying) Gordon Brittas sarcasm and leaving an irrelevant post on the forum help the thread starter who asked a reasonable question?

Answer No, Clevering and sarcasm failed to impress.

Nothing to see here "Incapuppy" - Move on

With the voucher, can you use it off any holiday with them whether it booked in store or on the website? I always book online and just wondered if you simply get the voucher amount knocked off the price you get up online? Even if it's already on offer? No catches?

I'm asking because I'm waiting to hear back from them about my complaints and just want to know whether it's a good idea to accept a voucher or cash, assuming I'm offered anything at all!

Yes, The voucher could be used with any other offer, either in store or online. It was just like cash, but only to be used with first choice.
    There were absolutely no catches.

I think the holiday companys have tightened up a bit now, if you don't complain to your rep in resort so it can be sorted there and then, they're not obliged to give you compensation.

Yes, I agree, you should always report any problems to the rep, but when the lady from First Choice phoned me I remember her telling me that they had had loads of complaints and the compensation was actually being covered by the hotel (the hotel was a "Viva" hotel, German owned and efficiently run, I have never been to a bad Viva hotel!)
