WARNING Hitachi DC-6371 6MP Digital Camera

The above camera is being advertised instore and on TV at £89.99. Great deal but if anyone wants one check it before leaving the store. We got ours home and when we put batteries in it kept turning off, tried new ones and the same so as hubby was getting ready to take it back I noticed it should have had a AC adapter. Upon closer checking it was not even the right model. It was an old model that is slightly lower spec Hitachi HDC-631E . From web search I do not even think this model can be bought anymore. Not a big difference and the box did have the correct Argos code on it. Took it back to store and when they check all the ones in their store was the same and the Manager phoned 2 other local stores and got them to phycially check their stock and it was the same. She phoned their helpdesk and was advised this was a special deal from Hitachi and looks like they offloaded old stock on them. I would add both camera are very similar and both 6MP so it would still eb a good deal but would advise everyone to check what they are getting is what they wanted. Manager was not sure how widespread this was but I will be phoning their Customer Service dept tomorrow myself about this matter.
I was planning to buy hubby a camera for xmas as a surprise but when I seen this I told him and got him to check spec and now he has no camera and no surprise for xmas.

My student daughter bought a Hitachi 5mp camera in August for my who was heading off to Peru for 12 months placement for her hispanics course.
1st set of batteries lasted an hour or so. 2nd and 3rd sets where no better.
I used high capacity rechargables.
I believe these cameras are made by Benq and re-badged for Hitachi
The young manager (foyleside)was very rude an tried to imply she was using sub standard batteries and refused a refund. I stood my ground and got her a refund.
Initially she claimed we didn't buy the camera in that store and there was no record of a purchase.. Thankfully the nicer counterstaff who sold it to us remembered us as we asked to see it before we bought it."Food has replaced sex in my life. Now, even I can't get into my own pants."0 -
Thanks OP. Our local Argos has just done this to DH, he is currently in the queue to get a refund. When I typed in the model number I didn't get any matches at all.
Edit: I have reported them to my local Trading Standards and emailed them to tell them so too. When it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........0 -
I recently bought a Digital camera from Argos. When I collected it the employee said '' Argos recommends the use of rechargeable batteries with digital cameras'' like she was reading from the screen.
Probably to cover themselves when people take them back.

Yes, they even give you a money-generating number to call them on, so that they can get some more cash out of you whilst you're on hold...British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
