  • Hi

I worked for a local authority before I retired and dealt with eaga and warm front at Manchester and Newcastle. I'm not telling you how to suck eggs but everytime you phone them up write down their name, date and time you rang and and what they said.

Ring them back again ask for the name of the electrical company they have appointed also ask for the name of the gas company at the same time. They WILL have this information.

Just a note Try this when you speak to them tell them you will be writting to your local MP as having to wait nearly twelve month also during the coldest winter on record seems a little unresonable.

I retired in October of this year and eaga/warm front had run out of funds/greatly reduced, though they won't tell you this.

    Don't hold your breath.

We had a visit in (I think) august or september. Our heating has stopped working, we have 3 children aged, 9,5 & 3.

We won't get a date for the work starting until march. They don't care that we have no heating, or that there are small children in the house. It's got very cold in here, and we now have black mould around all the windows upstairs and condensation on them all with puddles on the sills every morning.

If you can find some other way to get the work done, that would be your best option.

Warmfront are taking no new applications for the grant until the beginning of April as funding for 2010/2011 has now been allocated.

Neddles - If you have black mould growing in your house then you need to heat and ventilate the rooms adequately. A small electric heater and opening the window a crack will help with this. Wipe it down with 1 part bleach and 5 parts water in a solution bottle. No point in spending money on mould cleaners - they wont work any better. If you can, buy or borrow a dehumidifier, it'll help.

Whilst i understand what its like to live in a house with no heating and also how stressful it can be, (ive been there filling the kettle up to have a wash and plugging electric heaters in to get warm in the past) you know that there is a minimum of 6 months waiting time from your first surveyor visit. This should have been told to you by the surveyor, but is also in all of the leaflets etc as well as on the automated messages on the contact no. for warmfront. Simply stating that they dont care that you have 3 children is unreasonable. Plenty of people in this country have families and have no choice but to cope without heating when things go wrong. Unfortunately its not an automatic right to have someone come round and fix it for you at the drop of a hat. If this grant wasnt here and you had to pay for the work then you could easily be waiting weeks for it to be fixed whilst parts etc were being ordered.

Do you have any other forms of heating? Gas fires, electric heaters etc? If not, give the warmfront call centre a call and ask if they have any electric heaters to loan to you. They were doing this for a time although i dont know if they still are. Its worth an ask if you are finding it difficult to get warm at home.

Can I just add to the positives? I had my Warm Front survey in October and am having my installation in mid-Feb, I'm really happy with the service so far.
On the other hand, British Gas have let me down on three Home Care service appointments. Can't wait to tell them where to go once the new central heating system is in.

Mouk - Ask them which Ideal boiler they are installing - theres loads of them!! The new Ideal is very good, much better than the other models which warmfront used to fit, and doesnt have as many problems with the pcb. They do fit other makes, but it can be a struggle as Eaga are under a lot of pressure to keep the costs down, particularly with the grant funding being cut. You may find that they will if you insist but you may have to pay the difference in the cost of the boiler
