Just been to Harveys Furniture Store to order one of their table and chair sets advertised at £399.00 (with special discount for this weekend only). Salesman told me that there would be a delivery charge of £47.75. Thought it was a joke, but no, thats the real price! I said no probs, we will collect it ourselves, but oh no, can't do that, you have to collect it from a central depot about about 25 minutes journey away.
Our response, ............... we walked out without buying a thing.
Now, does anyone know someone selling similar (nicer and cheaper) stuff to theirs, so I can spend my money with THEM rather that Harveys?

Chech out MFI ...they have some really nice combinations and are reasonable in price.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -
I was annoyed because I want those particular dimensions, and their table and chairs set actually fits in my space. I need a table thats no more than 160cm long, and that fits three chairs down each side, rather than two down each side and one at each end, and I wanted leather or leather-look chairs rather than plain wood. Last time I looked the MFI tables were nice, but very big, too big for my dining area. I will have another look though, they might have something new!:hello:  please play nicely children !0

I think these charges are way out of proportion, its just a thinly disguised way to part you from some more or your hard-earned cash. Why not just be up-front, and add it to the cost of the item. Do they think we are so stupid we will just meekly nod our heads and say 'Mmm, what a bargain, ONLY fifty quid for delivery, I must recommend them to ALL my friends!':hello:  please play nicely children !0

I agree with that - intergratethe cost of delivery into the price of the item - i brought a csofa from SCS and it was £35 delivery for a 5min drive!!MSE has changed me for the better!!DD1 arrived 15/5/11, ]:money:0

I would much rather deal with a company thats up-front, and genuine about the END-PRICE. It's like holidays, free child, BOGOF, special discounts etc. etc. The ONLY price that matters is the big one at the end of the piece of paper.:hello:  please play nicely children !0

I have to agree with you in many respects... the actual price for delivery really isnt that terrible in all honesty but when you cannot get the item without delivery it does almost feel that it should be included in the advertised price.
Saying that we then get down to how a lot of websites operate where they make a big deal about delivery being free but anyone with sense knows they have simply added the £1 per kg (or what ever their shipping rate is) onto the item already. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Haggle....
I bought a widescreen TV from comet for £800 and they wanted to charge me £18 to delivery it.
I told them to either drop the delivery charge or I would spend my £800 elsewhere, they found a way to "get around" the delivery charge.0 -
This was 2years ago now but Harveys charged us £25 to deliver a 3 str and 2str sofa and footstool i didnt think that was too bad.0

If the depo is only 25 mins drive away why not go and pick it up?
I can understand if it was a 3 hour drive or similar, but 25 mins isn't unreasonable...0
