Roxburghe debt collectors

At the end of November this year, I received a letter out of the blue from the above debt collecting agency stating that I owed them £400.00. I phoned them to try to find out more information and they told me that I owed 3 mobile money from 2004 and that Roxburghe had now brought the debt and wanted to reclaim the money. I explained that although I used to have a contract with 3, this was the 1st that I had heard of owing them money. Although the lady at Roxburghe was helpful, she wasn't able to give the amount from 3 or the dates. I then called 3 who were useless. They couldn't give me any details of the debt and reminded me why I cancelled my contract in the first place!
I then recontacted Roxburghe and they said that they would send me a breakdown of the debt. In the meantime I sent Roxburghe a copy of the template that I found on MSE. I also checked my credit rating on Expedian, which showed no trace of the supposed debt and checked my past bank statements, which showed the last payment going out to 3 in August '04.
Today I received another letter from Roxburghe explaining that they had brought the debt and a breakdown of the balance owed. It shows the last payment going out in August '04, however for the next 10 months it shows an invoice for exactly the same amount each month that is unpaid.
I know that I put it in writing to 3 that I was cancelling my contract, however, being over 5 years later, I don't have any proof of this. Looking at the statements this must've been in July '04 as the final payment left my account in August '04. And the fact that the requested payments are exactly the same for the next 10 months show that I wasn't using my 3 phone (The amount requested must've been for whatever 3 package I had. It's too much of a coincidence to have exactly the same bill 10 months on the trot!) My bank statement also shows new payments for Orange starting from August '04.
As far as I am concerned, my 3 contract was terminated at my request with the last outstanding bill paid back in Aug'04. However, the reason that I have posted this thread (and thank you for taking the time to read it!) is for some advice on my next step! Roxburghe still want the money, but I don't think that I owe it.
Any advice is greatfully received!

well read about them on the Net...seems they are big scam and I wish Martin Lewis would look into them.
DO NOT PAY THEM. Seek legal advice if they pursue any more.
I too just got a £623.41p bill form a tiscali account I cancelled two years ago. What The...
I phoned them to rtell them I am seeking legal advie on it and will not pay. He seemed a bit "sad" about this.
SCAMMERS....type in "Roxburghe Debt Collectors Scam" in Google and read about them. Why are they allowed to do this in the UK? We are supposed to be netter than Nigeria. Sometimes I wonder.0 -
The "breakdown" they have given you is just the date the account closed followed by how much they want off you printed 10 times, they made it up and it proves nothing.
If you are adamant that you ended the account owing nothing then send them a reply stating that you note the contents of their letter however you maintain that it was you and not 3 mobile who terminated the agreement and that you did so in accordance with the terms of your agreement and that at the time you ended your contract with 3 mobile you owed nothing and no further charges could/should have been made since you terminated the agreement in writing.
finish by stating that this is your final response on the matter and that you dispute the debt and will make no further offer of payment unless documented evidence that this debt exists is presented to you.
See what they come back with, i doubt they have anything but their response will tell you alot, as an ex debt collector i understand how these things work and sounds like they are just taking a punt on an old "debt" they purchased for a couple of quid.0 -

Hello...I am hoping somebody can help me, I have just received a letter from roxburghe debt collectors regarding a parking ticket received on 18/02/10 from a private car park. They are stating in the letter that my fine has been increased due to late payment charges, and I have to pay within 7 days? is this actually correct, how can they increase the fine by 5times!! has anybody else experienced this and what should I do???0

Might be worth reading - http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk/parking.htm
You need to ask them for a breakdown of the debt, so you know the original debt amount, and the terms that have made the parking ticket increase in price. I do not believe tickets can increase in price so be reduced if paid early.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Private car park fines are a load of rubbish. They are not like the police.
Anyone correct me but im certain that it is down to them to prove that you were driving etc.
Simply dispute it, claim you were not the drive at the time. If they believe otherwise to prove it. Also ask for a breakdown and how they reach the amount and how they justify increasing by x amount for late payment. Roxburgh, in a dictionary come under the word 'clowns', a proper mickey mouse outfit. I would not pay them a penny.
They make out its a fixed penalty notice when infact it is a notice to take you to court for trespassing. They will accept a small amount as they will not want to take you to court (probably as they will not win). Its not a criminal matter so do not worry. As its for tresspassing betwen the drive of the car, how can they take you to court if you were not there at the time???:)
Tell them as such and tell them as you were not there at the time to stop harrassing you for something that does not concern you.

Hello, I was hoping for some advice. I received a letter today from Roxburgh regarding a debt from 2006 which I know nothing about. I'm not too concerned as I will fight this alleged matter. My concern is with the staff at Roxburgh. I rang them today to discuss the matter and spoke to a chap called Mark (surname witheld). He was without any doubt the rudest, most arrogant, obnoxious and aggresive person that I have ever had the misfortune to speak to. He woul'dnt let me speak and kept talking over me. Every time I tried to ask a question he threatened to hang up on me. He alleged that I was accusing the supposed creditors of fraud ??? He also pointed out that last time I spoke to him he had to hang up on me due to my being aggresive ! I have never spoken to this person before. My wife rang them one day after two missed calls so I pointed out that it was my wife that he spoke to. He told me that my wife was awkward and shouting at them ?
I was physically shaking after coming off the phone as this guy was simply rude rude rude...Is there any steps that I can take here against him ? Incidentally, I did speak to his team leader but I doubt very much that they will take any action.
PS..I was only calling him to get details of an alleged debt. I am still none the wiser !0 -

Hi
I received a letter from Roxburghe today relating to a parking ticket that was issued 13/04/10. My husband was using my car at the time as I was in hospital!!!
I have ignored the reminders regarding this ticket as per the Consumer Forum website.
Have you any advice?
It's quite scary:eek:0
