bumped car-realistic quote?
Hi all,
Firstly I have to say I'm a woman who has no idea about cars (I know some women do, but I just don't!!
), so please be gentle with me if I'm asking a ridiculous question! Hubby backed out and bumped a car that was parked opposit our drive and the car has been left with a dent in the driver's side bodywork near the front. The owner has told us he has been quoted £150 to have it repaired. How can we know if it's a realistic quote before we pay up?
Thanks!
CG. x

A few years ago my car was hit. New wing, fitted and painted was over £1000 so £150 sounds reasonable.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Thanks Chippy,
As I said I've no idea, but hubby seems to think it's a very minor dent and will need to be repaired and resprayed (ie nothing will need replacing). He was expecting less than this, but maybe he has no idea either!

Well some will say smart repair etc £75. Your neighbour has the right to have his car put back to it's original condition. So ask what the repair entails for the £150 and arrange to have the garage bill you direct.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Without seeing it I would say it sounds reasonable.
There aren't many places (garages) you can put a car for any work and get change out of £150
The dent may just push out in a couple of seconds, but if it has creased the panel, a bit more complicated, add to that if it needs painting....0 -
Thanks both of you. Our neighbour says the quote is for pushing out the dent and painting the area.

Write out a receipt for the neighbour to sign (with his name and address on it) marked "Received the sum of £xxx in full and final settlement of all costs incurred over the incident on x/x/09 involving (make and model and reg. number - their car) and (make, model, reg number of your car). This payment is not an admission of liability". The neighbour should sign under this statement.
Your husband should tell his insurer about the incident, and when telling them say that it's for information only, and that no claim will be made.0
