Anything under about £300 is probably fair to avoid a claim. Just ensure that you get a receipt signed as full and final payment for the accident so they can't come back again.
To get a puncture fixed cost me £15 yesterday...ouch but that might give you a bit of persepective.0 -
Your husband should tell his insurer about the incident, and when telling them say that it's for information only, and that no claim will be made.
Thanks so much for the tip about writing a receipt-we'll definitely do that!
Sorry to be dim again, but why is it a good idea to tell the insurer?
Thanks!

It's not just a good idea, it's a requirement of your policy! Not to inform them is a breach of the policy and could come back and bite you in the future!0

Thanks Quentin,
We had no idea it was a requirement of the policy.
My choice of words weren't the best when I wrote 'why is it a good idea'. I consciously didn't want to write 'why should he?' because that sounds like I was being funny about it!
Thanks for the info-really helpful!

Don't worry.
There is a good reason (apart from it being a requirement of the policy) - it means that your insurer is aware of what happened and have it on record should unscroupulous third parties accept a cash settlement from the responsible party, and then try it on and make an insurance claim as well!We had no idea it was a requirement of the policy.
Also (annoyingly) you have to declare things like this when applying for quotes from other insurers in future.0 -
Thanks again! As I said before, you're all so helpful and knowledgeable! No doubt I'll be back next time hubby backs onto a car! Haha.
