income support! how long?

Hi

Went for an interview to go through my income support claim and had a little meeting with an advisor about being a lone parent.....
That was just over a week ago i have not received any letters of confirmation of my claim or anything etc i am beginning to get a little worried now as at 30 and half weeks pregnant on my own i am running out of money... my last payment of jsa which has stopped now was over 2 weeks ago!!

So my question is does anyone know how long its takes from the interview to getting first payment with income support?

Any feedback would be much appreciated,

Many thanks

It varies according to area. You need to call the BDC or your Lone Parent Advisor, they will be able to advise further.
    Gone ... or have I?

The last time I applied for IS (Iv been on it twice as a lone parent) it took a month and a half before I got my first payment, although it was all backdated so I got a lump sum.

Tis rather annoy to say the least! I was phoning several times yesterday at it was really busy because the JCP was closed on Monday. However I did get through straight away at 9am this morning.

Mine took 3 weeks, I called them and they were very nice and let me know what was what - received payment but no letters yet. Call them to ask.

If you are very low on funds, then you could apply for a crisis loan whilst your IS claim is going through. This is then deducted weekly from your IS, a few pounds at a time usually.

Have you got the application form for the sure start grant? It wont help with the immediate problem but you need to get things ready. And your healthy start vouchers? That will help with reducing the food bills - get an application form online, my doctors have them in a large leaflet section and yours may too.

I applied on a Monday by phone, had the interview Thursday of the same week, a phone call to double check something the following Monday, and a giro through the door the day after that.

It just depends if they have a backlog I think.

Perservere with the call to BDS as they will be able to tell you.

It may be worth trying around school run times as they could be less busy then...
  • I had my interview on a Monday and got my first payment the following Weds/Thurs.

Guess is all depends on the backlog as previous people have said.
  • yeah i know what u mean...i have tried getting through but it just keeps say operators busy ring back and cuts u off..argggggggggggggggg
    i give up for today
