Websites of both VoipCheap & VoipBuster state, "New users can try VoipCheap/VoipBuster out for free for a total of 60 minutes. During this trial period you can only call the destinations marked as free."
When I tried I kept getting the message "you do not have enough credit."
VoipCheap helpdesk replied, "In order to use your freedays you must add credit to your account. Without credit the program will continue to work in trial mode."
I pointed out that I was not refering to 'freedays' but 'trial period'. In 'trail mode', I should be able to make calls to destinations marked as free.
VoipCheap helpdesk replied, "You have already made 12 free trial calls, the trial mode is now over."
My reply: I never got a connection when I called those numbers. Only the message, "you do not have enough credit". As you can see duration of calls were 0 secs, 2 secs, etc.
Also take note that:
1. Those 12 calls included freephone numbers
2. Total time is just a few seconds; free trial your company offer is 60 minutes.
I added: Please give me intelligent replies. I will not buy credit if you do not. I am also raising this issue at the forum.
VoipCheap helpdesk retort, "Yes you do that. We have deleted your account."
Not only unethical and unprofessional but also a sad example in cutomer relations, I thought!
Another claim they both make is:
"Buying credits entitles you to 90 Freedays to call free* destinations list for 90 days. credit will NOT expire."
Apparently there are strings attached to this. See thread VoipCheap Credit expiry problem' by 'ralph' who lost his money.
PS.
VoIPBuster, VoIPCheap.co.uk, Voipstunt, Voipdiscount, Netappel, SIP Discount, Sparvoip, Internetcalls, Poivy and Voipcheap.com are all part of Betamax GmbH & Co KG, Köln

I think it is generally accepted that Betamax GmbH have crap customer service. I guess people still use them to get the "free" days.
Sometimes what you get is actually slightly better than their sites suggest. For example I have noticed in the past that the £5 "top-up by text" offered by some of their sites actually gave 60 "free" days instead of the 47 days that the top-up page said.0 -

This 60 minute free trial that they offer is part of their End User License Agreement.
As such they are clearly breaking the law.
How the hell do they get away with it ?!!0 -
I wouldn't dream of giving these people my personal or banking details.0

I don't see how you can allege a scam, when you have spent and lost no money at all.
They have certain fair use policies to protect themselves from abuse. Perhaps your account has been rightly or wrongly flagged up for one reason or another.
But often the loudest complaints about Betamax are from people who have tried and failed with some workaround. Given their abrupt dismissal of your case, I suspect you might not be telling us the whole picture. For example, do you have several usernames? Or do you share an IP address with a number of other users, for example at university or workplace?0 -

Alarm bells started ringing in my case and as a result I did not pay them and loose any money. But they were asking me to pay eventhough I was not liable at that stage. If you like to know what a scam is, try this link

:rotfl:
The fact of the matter is that they breached their own terms and conditions.
ie as stated in their End User License Agreement.

No! I do not have several user names
No! I do not have share an IP address; I use a PC at home only.
Your suspicions and groundless.
I standby everything I said and quotations that I made are word by word.
Your stance is very biased. Why are you making up things?0 -
I am not making anything up. Sorry I wasted my time answering, as you obviously dont want help, just new targets for your litigious attitude0

If you got scammed by Betamax please open a google doc to document it, then publish it on the web and warn others.

Thanks for the link.
I found what appear to be a good value for money VoIP provider.
localphone.com
Prices to destinations that I call are one of the cheapest. Customer support is very good. One guy even helped me with configuring an Siemens VoIP phone.0
