Post Office/Passport check and send

Hey guys

I'm looking for a bit of advice - I need a new passport as mine has been lost and I go on holiday 30th April.

The post office does a check and send service that takes 3 - 4 weeks - is this reliable? does anyone have experience of this??

Cheers

It's reasonably reliable, normally. It doesn't actually offer a quicker service - it just makes it less likely that your form will be rejected as not filled in properly.

Not sure if you can use it for replacing a lost passport though - you may have to visit a passport office.

If you can use it I'm sure it will take longer because of the need to check out the lost passport.

Have a browse round the passport office website.

lost passport more complicated - get an LS01 form from PO with application form - fill in all sections of LS01 - if you don' t know - say that - complete sections 1,2,3,4 if born after 31.12.1982 and 9 & 10 - send with you full birth certificate - make sure your countersignature puts their business address on form as well - send 2 identical photos forms and £72.00 in

Give the Passport Office a quick call and they will (usually) happily advise you on what time scale (in working days) is their target and how they are currently performing against that target. I've just been through this process with DVLA regarding getting my paper licence changed to a photo licence as ID for a domestic flight.

    http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/contact-adviceline.asp

Most of the major Government agencies will happily divulge this information now but will still advise on the side of caution, especially as your current time scale incoporates the Easter period.
I do feel that we rely too much on online information and sometimes we need to talk to a real person for reassurance where possible. Plus, when you think about it, if we use the phone contact services we are actually contributing to keeping these people in jobs.
As an example...If I had heeded the online information, which was rather confusing, regarding changing my name and surrendering my paper licence for a photo licence, I would have been looking at a £40 fee whereas 1 short call to the DVLA reassured me that this service was actually provided free of charge.

I used it to replace a lost passport late last year. You can report your passport lost online and then they send you the form which you can take to the post office for the 'check and send' part. I think it took about a week for my passport to arrive.

    Thanks all!!!

I actually reported my passport lost around 2 weeks ago so that should leave me free to apply for a new one.

I'm going to use the Post Office service and report back on my findings :)

I was more worried that I'd get 10 replies all saying dont do it as it'll take weeks on end.

    Cheers

make sure you fill your correct bank details in, simple i know but i fell foul on this one.

The long number on my card had lost the "shine" taking it in and out of wallet. I wasnt concentrating and mistakenly wrote a 1 instead of a 7.

This held back my passport and i had to pay admin fee, think it was £5 or £7 .

We've just sent off for our passports - 2 renewals and 2 new kids ones. I sent them to be received by special delivery at the passport office last Monday and we got them back this Tuesday, so it took 8 days in total. I didn't use the post office but submitted my applications online which they returned to me within 24 hours and I just signed and returned those forms with my countersigned photos. It was so easy.
