Area moving to UC in Oct - if applying now will it be current system or UC?

Options
My area moves to UC on 1 October. If I claim now is it based on when they receive the form or when it is assessed - so it could be UC? Is there anyway to make sure it does not go onto UC as I believe I will get less.

I can't do it over the phone or online as its form only.

Thanks

There is a special process in place if it is happening in less than 21 days

Not clear what DWP Benefit requiring a form you are talking about so it is difficult to advise. jSA is normally claimed online, ESA is claimed by phone.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

I think that is why I assumed it was tax credits.

An entirely reasonable assumption on the limited information provided.

Apologies - it was income support and sure start grant. I was given forms and told to post which I have done in recent days. I've since found out Income support can be done over phone. Not sure about sure start grant as that requires Income Support but it did have an address to post to at the end. But I'm guessing they will only verify after UC is implemented?

Keep in mind whatever benefit they put you on it would be a matter of time before you would be on uc anyway.

The Sure Start Grant can be claimed regardless of whether you are on Income Support or Universal Credit https://www.gov.uk/sure-start-maternity-grant/eligibility
It is not one of the benefits replaced by Universal Credit so the switch over of your area to UC will make no difference to whether you can claim it.
Provided your Income Support claim is registered as valid prior to UC switch over it should be processed as normal.

Thanks hopefully it is registered as soon as received.

I've read that about UC and sure start but its status changes so it is now factored in income or similar and reduces UC
