    I'm pretty much the same as everyone else.

    Positives
    Finding this wonderful forum

    Being more aware of money and not spending on credit because I could

    Having money in the bank 1 day before pay day and not being overdrawn

    Changing my spending habits and being more aware of how much things cost

    Negatives
    Although I have understanding friends, they are not in debt and don't understand when we go out that I want to buy my own drinks and not get into rounds (makes me feel a bit awkward)

    Being obsessed about how much everything costs and moaning about it!
    Debt 30k in 2008.:eek::o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)

    My parents are in their very late 40s and I wish they'd figured things out earlier and not kept consolidating but never mind. People are living longer and 40 isn't even middle age any more :D

    Positives:

    At last I feel as if I am doing something to tackle my debts;
    I'm now an 'educated' consumer and what the pitfalls of poor money management are;
    I can see a way out;
    I don't spend for the sake of it - spending is no longer a leisure pursuit.

    Negatives:

    I sometimes feel excluded at work because people know I'm skint (and not ashamed of it either);
    People say hurtful things - maybe not hurtful but incredibly naive things which hurt;
    I have to say 'no' to things I enjoy.
    Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

    • I am sick of beating my self up for any spending misdemeanour (there have been many of late) and can't wait to get debt free so that the self-flagelation can stop

    I'm still beating myself up for the fact that I left my immersion heater on overnight and left a hob on my cooker on for 2 hours after finishing cooking both on the same day! :mad:

    Oh beating myself up, don't get me started on that...
    why are we in this mess... what idiots we are.....

    no we can't have a bottle of wine..., no we can't have fun.... we don't deserve it

    because we are

    Bad, stupid, irresponsible people, rubbish parents etc. etc.

    That is over the top but you get my drift.

    then the next day....
    Oh I really want that and we deserve it!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Positives:
    -I'm controlling my money the way I should have been from the begining.
    -I look forward to being debt free, I know I'll be able to save some of my salary.
    -Having people to talk to on here.

    Negatives:
    -Feeling a bit isolated as I can't really talk to my parents/bf about debts etc. They just don't like to talk about money generally.
    -Blaming myself for my previous mistakes.

    I'm sure that the positives will outweigh the negatives soon. As time goes by I do feel like I have more contol and that there is a solution. Then I remember I also have student loans to think about and the feeling fades... :rolleyes:
