One slice of pizza?

Options
I was recently on a work trip to Poland.
At night I noted quite a few small take-away businesses selling only pizza slices individually - nothing else.
I've seen this in other European countries too. Usually about one Euro per slice.
They always seem to do well, as far as I can see.they are busy

But I've never seen this in the UK. We have late night pizza and kebab places, but the smallest portion of anything they sell is usually a portion of chips. Pizzas are always sold as a whole pizza. Smallest is about 9 inches usually.

I was discussing this with a relative, who is interested in starting a small business.
We weren't sure of the reason why this business model isn't common here.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

James.

Do you think selling (only) pizza slices individually would be popular in the UK? 11 votes

Don’t remember seeing many places around here (Yorkshire) selling by the slice, except Greggs. Sounds good.

I'm talking more about late-night (eg until about 2am).

Go to London, walk down Oxford St, around the west end in general, you’ll see plenty of single slices of pizza for sale.

That's interesting. Are they quite small places that only sell single slices?
(Obviously you can buy more than one slice if you want).

Maybe they do well due to a lot of customers being out walking about in the night?
I live in a large town in the UK and I've never seen such a thing.
But maybe it would do well here - because people can spend less?

I thought there may be some kind of regulation that made it non-viable in the UK. Seems not.

    Thanks for the replies.
I'll take a look at the places in London - if I'm nearby with work.

I was interested to see how well the single slice pizza businesses were doing in Europe - because it was very cold there at night. Colder than the UK, but they were still busy at 1-2am.

It's very common in the USA.

Pizza by the slice even has its own Wikipedia entry
