indeed, OP's business model sounds like it is based on access to a number of people who are too drunk to realise what a ridiculously expensive way that will be to get food just because the "normal" take away has by then closed.

I'm talking more about late-night (eg until about 2am).

Sounds like it would work. A big problem with trad pizza (and some other not-so-fast food) is the time it takes to arrive. If people can rock up and buy on the spot, that would certainly be more attractive to me!

That's interesting. Are they quite small places that only sell single slices?
(Obviously you can buy more than one slice if you want).
    Thanks.
Maybe they do well due to a lot of customers being out walking about in the night?
I live in a large town in the UK and I've never seen such a thing.
But maybe it would do well here - because people can spend less?

I thought there may be some kind of regulation that made it non-viable in the UK. Seems not.

    They are little outlet places.
They sell other stuff too, but limited.

Personally I'd suggest that the hassle factor for any business who's key clientel is late-night drunks is too high to make it worth cinsidering for most...

From what I've seen in Europe, the business model is more about attracting in people who probably wouldn't bother to stop at a larger take-away for a whole pizza or burger etc. (ie they're not really hungry and they don't want to wait).

Because there are quite a few customers most of the time, the large pizzas are constantly being cooked and sliced. It wouldn't really work unless you had enough customers - because the slices are not cooked individually - so the rest of the pizza would go cold.

The places were all small with standing room only - no seats.

I didn't see any customers who were obviously drunk. Not like you'd see in the UK perhaps.

The premises were quite small - but obviously they'd have similar overheads, expenses and paperwork, admin etc. So maybe that would make them less viable here in the UK?

Have you ever visited any of these one-slice pizza places yourself?

Most of the customers (including myself) didn't seem to have more than two (or at the most three) slices of pizza. So that would be maximum about three Euros (or equivalent). Most customers only had one slice. It seems to be about more customers spending less.

Don't let your local council hear you say that!
They seem to be quite against more fast food outlets at the moment.
But I didn't see any obese people at these one-slice pizza places in Europe. So maybe it actually means people eat less?
