Post Office exchange Turk Liras

Hi. My first post.

I ordered some Turkish liras from the post office on Monday at 6.60. I’m due to pick them up today but the rate is shooting up. 8.3 at the moment. Do I have any rights or can I cancel?

    i managed to cancel after dispatch but it cost £20.

    Think it was being pointed out that buying money in the U.K. is the worst way to maximise the exchange rate,,especially at the post office.

    Using any one of a number of cards is a much better option.

    Have a read of the travel money sticky or just do a search in here

    It!!!8217;s already cost you £20 plus a worse exchange rate

    Big shifts in currency rates like this is why I don't buy in advance and just take the current prices while you away. I got 5.6 TRY when I was in Turkey in May and thought that was good so getting over 8 TRY to to the pound will mean that Turkey is exceptionally cheap.

    Of course if you buy in advance you could win if it is the pound which collapses against the other currency but it is always a gamble.

    In general you will get decent USD or EUR rates in the UK if you shop around (don't just go to the Post Office!) due to the volumes traded but if you want a "minor" currency, especially a volatile one then wait until you get to your destination. They will have lots of their own currency and will happily sell it to you in exchange for pounds at a good rate.
