If you think about it from the agent's point of view, it makes complete sense: The agent's only goal is to sell as many of the properties on their books as possible. Now that you've made an offer on one of their properties, they know you are a serious buyer (or at least, more likely to be than someone who hasn't offered on anything). They also know that there is only a 25% chance of you actually getting to buy the property in question. Therefore it makes complete sense that they would want to show you some other properties of theirs which might interest you, so that if you get rejected, your next offer is more likely to go to one of theirs, rather than another agent's.

And I agree with PasturesNew, try to build a rapport with the agent (and any other agent whose properties interest you). When it comes down to 'best and final' and there are similar offers on the table from people in similar positions, a good word from the agent can make all the difference.

Might be worth being a bit careful- agent may report to vendor that you're looking at a different property, which could be a problem.

Maybe you should be looking at properties under your budget so you can over bid everyone else.

Yes. Plenty of times we have heard here that EAs have not been discreet, or have given info to the wrong people. Or the EA might prefer another buyer got the first house.

Surely that would be a good thing - not a bad thing.
    • The OP has made an offer
    • The vendor is "thinking about it"
    • So the EA says to the vendor "You need to hurry up and decide. The OP is looking at other properties. If you don't give them an answer soon, they might give up and offer on a different property instead."

We were interested in two properties - one had lots of interest and the other very little. The agent kept answering our questions on the one with very little interest - this was because she wanted two sales. Very unfair imo, very obvious, so we walked away from both. Both are now still on the market and we are waiting for a price reduction.
