    What advantage has fossamail got over TB?

    I already use Palemoon and TBH there is very little difference between that and FF. I only moved to Palemoon because of the plethora of updates that FF was coming out with. Unfortunately Palemoon is now following that route as well. Based on that experience then fossamail being from Moonchild will start taking the same route

    There is an AddOn forThunderbird that will export your emails to eml

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/

    you should be able to use this and then with outlook import the eml files

    I've used TB for years in XP, W7, 8, 8.1 and 10 without any freezing. That suggests to me that it's an incompatibility with something else on your system that is causing the issue. If it's simpler to move to Outlook than diagnose the problem then go for it, but as it doesn't seem to be that simple then maybe uninstalling other software to see if that solves the freezing might be an alternative.

    Manual trick to convert MBOX File to PST Format

    As we can see to convert MBOX file to PST format manually can be a long method. As first we have to change the format of your mbox file to .mbx file format to save file Eudora mail client.
    Now Open Outlook Express email client and import this mbx file by browsing the file location. Now Open MS Outlook and choose import MBOX file from Import/Export option and open the emails file in Outlook
