Call Prevention Service calling asking for bank details

Options
Any one heard of an organisation by the name of The Call Prevention Service calling elderly people, in their mid 80's, advising that they have been subscribing to their organisation for 2 years and are able to offer a discounted service, however, they need to verify the bank details and could they provide them for checking.
Luckily, they did not and ended the call, they immediately called their bank afterwards confirming that no payments had ever been taken for this company.
Apparently, TPS (Telephone Prevention Service) have this company marked as dubious, but there are a number of CPS websites saying differently and other forums, including this one, claiming that this is a legitimate organisation.
Any help.

Sounds like a variation of the range of similar cold calling frauds that are doing the rounds. e.g. boiler warranties, sky digibox warranties etc saying similar (warranty running out and need to buy a new one)

If you never act on cold calls, you wont be scammed. It seems most cold calls are scams nowadays.

These people rang up yesterday and tried to say that instead of £4 per month which was allegedly being paid via phone provider, they would only ask for £1.50 per month. Declined the offer and asked for their phone number - checked it out on Who's Calling Me and found it was this company already discussed. Be aware as very convincing at first.

As Dunstonh said back in March, best simply not to act on ANY cold call. If you are interested in their wares, tell them to write to you then at least you have time to cool off before agreeing to anything.

    THIS IS A SCAM!

Check their website and you will find the following:

    1) No company registration number.
    2) No company address.
    3) A claim that they are regulated by the ICO, which by the way IS NOT a regulator.
    4) Emails sent to the following addresses: info@callpreventionservice.co.uk and data@callpreventionservice.co.uk are UNDELIVERABLE.
    5) The quoted telephone number 0843 289 4598 is a premium number which has an automated message telling you to ring back later or leave your name and number.
    6) When they call you back they ask for a one off fee of £49.99 which they claim is on the website - WHICH IT IS NOT!

The owner of the Call Prevention Service went to jail for this scam.

    - https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/fraudster-jailed-exploiting-coldcalling-victims-9183677

If this has started up again, this may indicate a failure to learn from the experience and recent release from jail.

If you pay with a debit card you have lost your money. This is not the Telephone Protection Service which is completely free.

If you call to try and cancel under the 14 day cool off period you will get an answer machine and be charged a premium rate. They will not respond to e-mails and the trading standards should close this scam down immediately. My friend has £55 pound less in his account which he has no closed to prevent these unscrupulous individuals raiding again. Aviod at all costs the TPS are on level ne and charge nothing.
