We had a lot of fun on the Wombling in 2017 thread that was started by Bobarella, and I would like to keep track of my wombles again this year.

The rules are pretty flexible; for me, wombles are any products or services I get free, for others it also includes the discounts received. Found money is always a womble :)

1 cent in Aldi (not a supermarket where I expected to find money on the floor!)
2 rabbits €50 (I was looking for pets for dds, and a lady in the village was giving them away for free. Last year, I only found one in a pet shop, where rabbits were sold for €25 each. Sadly, that one died within 5 weeks).

2 cans of fizzy drink from Eurostar, brought back by a colleague €1

I won't count this as a womble, but need to share my happiness somewhere :):
we have an annual maintenance contract for our central heating and hot water installation, which costs €195 (GBP172) per year. This year, because the installation is 5 years old, it needs to be audited (government requirement for all gas installations). Normal cost of audit: €149 excl VAT, cost because of maintenance contract: €40 excl VAT. Advantage: €100.
The maintenance guy replaced 2 parts, which would have cost us €450, but are free under the contract. If we had to call him out because of the defect parts, he would have charged about €160 for showing up and for the time he worked. He also gave us advice to possibly save €22 off our annual bill by making a slight change to our thermostat settings.
    Total advantage: 100 + 450 + 160 + 22 = 732 - 195 (contract) = €537!! (GBP 475).

  • I'm joining in as it would be good to keep a tally of exactly how much I have save so far. I especially enjoyed reading 2017's thread!

Yesterday I popped into B'n'M and picked up some bits and bobs that I can stash for birthdays and Christmas:
    Huge candles reduced from £10 to £3 bought 2 = £14
    Votive sets reduced from £5 to £1.50 bought 2 = £7

Y/S produce in Mr T for dinner
    Fish pie mix reduced from £4.50 to £0.90 bought 2 = £7.20
Finest red potatoes reduced from £2 to £0.30 = £1.70
    Runner beans reduced from £0.55 to £0.10 = £0.45
    Loose broccoli reduced from £0.60 to £0.06 = £0.54

Students brought in chips for the staff to share as it's the last day of term £1.50 saved

And Mr J had a £13 refund voucher from travel company for train issues.

    That makes..... £35.39
    Happy days :)

  • Last night I popped into the supermarket to pick up my y/s bits to top up the fridge. I ended up with two bags of produce and only a few bits that weren't y/s e.g. milk all for £26

Plus I picked up a couple of bits that had vouchers available through apps e.g. washing machine liquid was reduced from £3 to £2 as part of a special offer, but with the voucher claimed it was down to £1 for 26 washes :)
I did the same with a few other bits and so I now have £5 coming back to me. That made two bags for £21 and to cap it off a £48 saving!!!

    Happy wombling :)

  • Been staying with a friend last 2 weeks looking after them after an op so in exchange they have been feeding me!

But when I did pop to sains for milk I ended up with bagels £2 - down to 50p and teacakes £1.80 - 60p so enjoyed them as a change toasted for breakfast!
