Big bill gas and electric

Just had a bill for £280 gas and electric for one month after moving to a new house from british gas.
As soon as we moved in on 18th November, I did a uswitch to British gas fixed tariff which predicted £1400 per year with over exaggerated usage figures used.
The fix still isn't in place despite numerous contacts with uswitch who keep saying British gas have a backlog to go through and have escalated it.
There is no way we have used 280 of gas electric in one month regardless of being on the variable tariff.

Is the bill based on Actual readings and do you agree with the opening reading as you gave to your present supplier ?Never pay on an estimated bill0

I never gave a reading to the supplier. This is the first contact I've had from them.0

Oh dear
What about the last reading shown on your bill - Actual or EstimatedNever pay on an estimated bill0 -
You did take meter readings when you first moved in? Preferably with photos.
Guessing this bill is an estimate on the old tariff.0 -
If you didn't give an initial reading how have they manged to produce a bill.
I hope & trust that you do still have your initial readings and some evidence of when they were taken.
Have you got the readings that you gave to the original supplier - you did register with the original supplier didn't you and give them your readings. If you didn't then it's possible that you've slipped through because you didn't have an a acount to transfer and you could be paying for the previous tenant/owner energy especially if they didn't give a reading when they left.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
The property has a smart meter so readings have been taken from there. I cannot understand the amount billed we've been using around £6 per day combined on the variable tariff.0

Just because the meter looks like a smart meter doesnt mean it sends readings back. This would only be the case if say they were installed by Eon and the supply has always been with Eon.
On your bill are readings Estimated or Actual ?
ImNever pay on an estimated bill0 -
It is quite possible to use that in december. Do you have actual usage (units or kwh). You should be able to get these figures from your smart meter or bill.4kWp, South facing, 16 x phono solar panels, Solis inverter, Lincolnshire.0

It's a British gas smart meter and supply was and is with British gas.
It has a mixture of estimate and smart meter readings.0 -
