Aer Lingus Dublin - London - Las Vegas.. Delay caused missed connecting flight

Options
Hello

Little confused with all the different information online so looking a little guidance.

We booked a trip via Thomas Cook to Las Vegas flying from Dublin. Our flight tickets showed us we were fling with Aer Lingus via British Airways.

We had a flight out of Dublin to London on the 4th but that flight was delayed due to congestion at the airport taxi ways. We were meant to fly out @ 13:40 but boarded the fight late and never took off until 15:20. This flight landed @ 16:35 and the flight from London to Las Vegas departed @ 16:40.

We missed the connection and could not get another flight out until the next morning.
They put us up in a hotel and on a Virgin flight the next day @ 12:40 which was also an hour late to take off landing @ 15:50, 30 minutes late.

This left us 20 hours 40 minutes late to our destination.

Do we have grounds to claim of Aer Lingus for this under EU Regulation 261/2004
We also have Revolut cards which offer Delayed travel insurance.

Which would be better to peruse

Cheers

If your insurance covers a delay like this then claim of that first. Any compensation you receive from the airlines is nothing to do with the insurance claim. So get claiming on that straight away.

HOWEVER, if you receive compensation from the airline, the insurance company will do their utmost to reduce their payout by some weasel word small print T & C.
Airport taxi congestion for a 2 hr delay sounds like a BS yarn to me. If you put all your flight details up - dates times flight numbers etc someone with a tracking subscription might be able to see what your plane was up to. It may have been delayed arriving at Dublin.
