If your supplier does not know who these people are, then they are most definitely scammers.
When BG changed my meter I was informed in writing beforehand by them stating the date, time and company.
I would write a letter telling Lowri Beck that your supplier has not authorised them to do any work on your meter and that you will be reporting them to the OFT that should solve the problem. I would also telephone the OFT and report them anyway 08454 04 05 06
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Lowri Beck are meter readers here in Watford for either Scottish Gas or nPower (can't remember now which it was for). Most of the power companies outsource their readers outside their local area I think.

I would guess that you may have just got an ill advised call centre employee responding & they are trying to change the meter for a smart meter.

To be certain however I think I'd write to Npower rather than rely on the phones, ensuring you obtain their written confirmation this is something that should be proceeding and why.

lowri beck work on behalf of most suppliers they are responsible for the upkeep of the meters, they are a legit company however they may also have the incorrect details of when your meter was changed last, i would say to call npower up and ask them from there records which they will have when you changed suppliers the date of installation of your meter if it is only recently npower can contact lowri beck to advise when it was installed and what they have on record to see if it still needs changing

i would also say one thing though I know there are some meters (not sure which just from experience) some meters only have a short shelf life and need changing well before the recommended 20-25 year shelf like

    hope that helps

just a word of caution..lowri beck changed my meter in 2009. n Power have sent out readers and the last time was dec 2010. I have had problem after problem submitting my own readings as it is a 6 digit meter and n power have either asked me to drop the first or the last digit(depending on who I speak to from customer services)
following a visit from lowri beck they now say i owe £1000 as i have used 13000 units since DEC. Even though i have been paying by DD and have been in credit according to the dual fuel bills they post online. I have records of the readings i have given to n Power in this time so dont think I have done anything wrong,it is clearly their mistake and they have been coming to read the meter and still getting it wrong. has anyone else had any issues like this?

If this is for elec the annual average is 3300 so something is wrong unless you have a canabis farm in your house. If you are monitoring your useage what is your daily consumption?

Hi - I had them round yesterday and they put in a new meter (I'm with NPower by the way). My old one wasn't supporting both high and low rates so I figured it would save me money over time if I got a dual tariff one put in. In a day and a half the meter has gone from 0 to 4 units at high rate, and 0 to 1 at low rate (brand new meters start at zero). But this is far too high, and the only explanation is that there is no decimal point displayed (the old analogue meter had tenths of KWhs as the last digit). 0.4 at high and 0.1 at low makes perfect sense, and the maths works out when I checked the bill.
I think someone else mentioned about dropping a digit. Well, it seems pretty clueless of the energy companies to not have this sorted already.
When I give my meter reading I'll be dropping the last digit.
But then I'm just a renegade.
