We're planning to give up work in a couple of years then move to somewhere cheaper to free up some cash from sale of the house. We'll be hoping to get a 3/4 bedroom detached house for around 230-270k in a nice semi-rural area. On our radar so far are Anglesey and some towns inland near Skegness. Any recommendations for other places to consider? We probably wouldn't go much further north than Skegness.

Seriously if you are looking to retire, why would you want to suffer the god awful weather up north.0 -
I haven't been to Skegness since I went to Butlin's 51 years ago, but I was in Angelsey a couple of weeks ago and there are obvious reason why property is cheaper there.0

We're off to Anglesey for a long weekend soon as I haven't been there since I was a teenager. What would you say are the reasons why it's cheaper there?0 -

Spain would be nice but we don't speak Spanish, although we could try and learn that. I'm not sure the missus would fancy being in another country when we get older if I croak it before her.0 -
Without a clue as to where you are now it is difficult to make suggestions. If in London, the country is probably your oyster.0

In that case, if you are considering inland from Skegness, how about looking further south? South Lincs, North Cambs, those kind of places. There are some beautiful villages within ten miles of Peterborough, for instance, where you would have easy access to facilities without actually having to live in a town or city.
No idea whether you favour character properties, new builds or somewhere in between, really rural or edge of village/country town... How do you feel about proximity to main roads or railway lines?

I like the area around the Lincolnshire wolds, there are some lovely market towns. I'm not sure on house prices though.0
