It's like that here too in the town I'm in.
Difficult to get one's head round when you're used to your own family being scattered across the country and I wouldnt recognise some of my own cousins if I met them and, if you wanted to describe my brother "accurately" - then I'd probably agree with you:rotfl:0 -
I moved to Anglesey from England a few years back on a bit of a whim and I'm looking to move away having become very disillusioned with the place.
It's been very heavily (over) promoted in recent years by the tourism industry, resulting in far too many tourists now coming here, with car parks over flowing in the most popular spots, frequent traffic jams and previous hidden gems now all well and truly discovered. There's much more litter and generally anti-social behaviour from the increased numbers of tourists and the 'type' of tourists that now seem to be attracted to the place.
Inland away from the coastline the landscape is boring and lifeless, just flat intensively managed pasture land and industrial chicken production units.
The weather really isn't all it's cracked up to be, public transport and health services are very poor and a new nuclear power station looks set to be going ahead next year.
The one myth I would dispel is regarding the locals, yes they're very Welsh but they are friendly and down to earth, which is more than can be said for most of the obnoxious, arrogant, disrespectful tourists!
It's back to the hills for me!0 -

Not a bit of it. Back came the reply, "Oh that lot are nought to do with us; they're the ****** Smiths and we're the ****** Smiths!"
(The ******* are the names of the little town and our village, 2 miles from it......and Smith isn't the surname either, but you get the idea.)

Thanks for posting about your experience. Which part of Anglesey do you live in?0 -
I'm on the south coast of Anglesey, but pretty familiar with most of the island through work.
Just one example of the dramatic increase in tourist numbers, my local beach (Newborough) had approx 50k annual visitors in 2012, last year it had 300k!!0 -

That's a shame as Newborough beach looks lovely. Are most of the visitors in the 3 summer months, or throughout a longer period?0 -

They're all throughout the year now, even in the middle of winter it can get busy, but obviously much more from Easter through to end of September.0 -

I'm from much further southIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
So true, though I've grumbled about someone here, then realised the person I was speaking to has someone of the same surname in their family, so apologised in case they'd taken offence.

The problem in my hometown was, you'd be talking to Bert Smith about Fred Jones, not realising Fred and Bert were cousins. I was in the same class at primary school for 4 years with 2 boys, but I only found out about 5 years ago they were cousins. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
