Volunteer work in a hospital

Hiya

Does anyone have any experience and if so what did they do and the hours and are you allowed free car parking?

Personally, I like to go in once or twice a week for a few hours and chat to adults that may not be getting visitors for various reasons.

    You can pretty much do what you like as long as it is considered useful by the hospital- what you suggest sounds ideal (particularly on elderly care wards).

    Hospitals should make sure sure you are not out-of-pocket, but precise policies will differ between hospitals. There will be a volunteer department at your local hospital- just give them a call about opportunities.

    You would have to have a DBS - patients in a hospital are a vulnerable group, and volunteers must be scrutinised.

    Volunteering is often run by the Royal Voluntary Service within hospitals, the hospital's switchboard will know who to put you through to.

    Most trusts will post their volunteer opportunities on the NHS jobs website.

    I disagree as I for one cannot think of a single volunteer role with the NHS that will not require a police check.

    Admin and clerical roles and roles which don’t require patient contact. Not all paid jobss within the NHS require a DBS either.

    Go read some policies and information on the NHS jobs website.
