Best electric heaters and loft-type insulation

Options
Two questions/queries.

1) Is one form of electric heater better at producing heat than another (same power rating)? Currently using a dimplex convector heater with fan, but its not really doing enough. If anyone has any tips/info they will be more than welcome.

2) Does anyone supply loft-type insulation for use these days. Have looked at one or two websites and none of them showed anything other foil-type rolls of insulation, not the old-style woolly type. Also any grants to help businesses with insulation might be useful.

All heaters with the same wattage produce the same amount of heat. Convector heaters can do a good job of heating the ceiling if you are not careful where you place them. They work best at the side of the room rather than placed in the middle. If you have a high ceiling most of the heat will go upwards ( makes for cold feet ! ).

A fan heater will generally be best as it circulates the air ( and you can toast your feet ! )

There is a section here on loft insulation and grants. Just do a search

Can only reiterate Frasercas advice on heating and all builders merchants, Travis Perkins etc. supply rolls of normal loft insulation.

I prefer the Polysterene sheets. It's got a slightly higher K value (ie: better insultater (aka insulater) than wool), but more importantly, not such a blatant health hazard.

Interesting stuff this! I recently bought a convector heater from Lidl, bargain at £20 which also has the facility to blow air towards the bottom, so should I use this rather than the heat coming out of the top?
