How does debt/money saving impact on your life?

Positives
I am in control
can account for and decide upon every penny spent
my attitude towards credit and debt has changed completely

Negatives
Apart from the lovely people on this site I do not know anyone else with debt (although I am not asking and they are not sharing)
The restrictions can be very tough at times
It can be hard to have fun when you have ALWAYS associated it with spending in some shape or form.

I could go on adding entries to both lists, but thought I would ask the question of everyone here on this grey bank holiday evening.

:D

    Evening ruby,

Guess for me it's good and bad as it's not my debt but I still feel responsible in part. But I'm glad they are finally getting their dimmer switches turned up!

For my money, I love being in control, I know that I can go out and spend money on big items and not feel guilty because it's my hard earned cash but friends think I must be rolling in it because of things I have. Nope, just careful :D

    Hi

I totally agree with all of your positive & negatives. There's no doubt that its hard, very hard to pay off the debts.

    My list is:-

    Positives

In control of finances and actively sorting them out.
After being burnt by bad debts once, it has hopefully learnt me a good lesson not to do it again

    Negatives

    EVERYTHING costs money

Its hard to economise when you have young children.

Can't keep up with friends when they have outings & holidays etc.

Fed up of being the "Poor ones", but I haven't the energy to pretend we have got money, so I just play to poor card whenever they are doing anything that costs money.

Work all hours god sends and we are still broke :o

    Ok moan over :D

    Hi Steph,
I couldn't agree more... we are always saying we can't afford it sorry!! The children have had to stop doing things because we can't afford it (well probably couldn't ever) but it is worse for them to have had something and then had it taken away, e.g. tennis coaching, ballet etc.

And everything costs, there is no such thing as a cheap day out with children.....

    (sorry.....:o )

Guess I just wanted you to know you are not alone.:D

    lol @ hypno

    My positives are:
    • I finally realise the value of money and understand what I should be able to do with my salary when I am out of debt
    • I now have the will and inclination to get out of debt
    • I have been able to share what I have learned on here with loads of my friends
    • I have got to know loads of lovely people on here
    My negatives are:
    • I am now officially boring when anyone mentions anything that they are thinking of doing that involves money (I am getting predictable with my, "have you checked out....?" or "is there a voucher for ...?" or "Have you heard of quidco? they will pay you for that")
    • I am sick of beating my self up for any spending misdemeanour (there have been many of late) and can't wait to get debt free so that the self-flagelation can stop

    Hi Sistercas
I wonder if the people we look at and think are well off have secret debts too... or is that me just trying to make myself feel less alone.

We are in our 40's and I wish we had had our LBM in our 30's!!!!!!
