Wimbledon tickets

Options
My friend and I applied to the Wimbledon ticket draw in the hope that one of us would get tickets and we could go together.
She got a letter today to say that she has been successful :j.

Unfortunately (or not as in this case) she has has word that an op she has been waiting for for ages is to be scheduled for June and she will be unable to attend.

Obviously, she has offered me the tickets as it was always the intention we would go together, however, the tickets will be in her name and all over the letter it states time and again that they are not transferable. I would still like to go and take my daughter.

Does anyone know if there are id checks at the gates? I’ve read that actually it’s so busy that there are none but I wouldn’t want to risk ticket prices, flights and hotels if there are.
Has anyone been recently that can confirm?

Thanks in advance.

There must be a better more suitable forum for this than 'Overseas Holidays & Travel' ?

I haven't been to Wimbledon but I have attended many other sporting events (football, rugby, cricket, athletics, horse racing) and never had an ID check.

Thanks for your replies. My friend who has been before but not for a number of years said that she has never been I’d checked so I think I’m willing to risk it.

mgdavid, can you suggest a more suitable forum and I’ll get it moved?

    Cheers

    This forum, I guess: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=80

I've been to Wimbledon a couple of times with tickets from the ballot didn't get asked for ID.

I got tickets in the ballot and saw Murray on Centre Court in quarter final about 5 years ago and again 2 years ago got tickets for No 2 Court and sawladies quarter final. On neither occasion was asked for ID.

We got our ticket offer today too. Lucky to get a pair of Centre Court tickets For ladies final day. Only downside is they are £185 each. But hey ho, all paid for already.

Depending on what you have tickets for and what day of tournament may dictate how vigorous they may be about ID.
