Selling books

Hi

I'm looking to sell some of my books that are taking up space and saw on tv adverts to sell books at the likes of music magpie. I am wondering where are the best places to sell and get value for money without going on amazon or eBay? Hoping anybody can help as there are lots of places.

    Unless they are rare or first editions I wouldn't bother. If it's just space that you are after, donate your books to charity.

    I tried to take some books (hardback, good condition) to my local charity shop the other day, and they didn't want them.
    No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...

    The only books I've bothered selling were expensive and specialised academic textbooks. I sold them on Amazon, because demand was low enough that they sat for months or in a couple of cases years before selling! An eBay auction wouldn't really have worked there as the chances of anyone coming along while it was active would be minimal!

    My local supermarket has a 'book bank' that you can just throw them in.

    A lot of charities won't take them anymore, they take up too much space.. I donated them to Dr's with lending library and the like. Sadly most went to recycling

    If they are normal paperbacks, they aren't worth anything. I collect books but only rare first editions from the turn of the century.


    If you want to look at approx asking prices if you do have anything special (eg Harry Potter first edition) then abebooks.co.uk is a good place to look.


    At least the books might be read by somebody else but the Kindle has changed all that. Even if someone spent a lot of money building a large Kindle collection, it can't be passed on even in the event of their death.

    As pointed out by the other posters it does depend on what kind of books you are selling but most of those scan the barcode sites tend to only offer pennies.

    Car boot sale? Probably only get 25p though. Could be you could clear more space by having a clear out of other stuff.

    It's quite difficult selling most books, even if they have some value, because you might have to wait a long time for someone who actually wants a particular book to come along. A relative of mine does it on Ebay, but it takes a long time to sell them in general.
