Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - over budget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Thanks for running another thread ETO,

Last week was a red week for me £15/£5 :( Think i jinxed myself by saying i had nothing to spend my budget on.

Can you put me down for my usual £10?

    Sun - Groceries £11.51
    Mon - Groceries plus lottery (£2.00), £4.42
    Tues - NSD
    Weds - Groceries, £18.82
    Thurs - NSD
Fri - Groceries plus small donation (25p) to Children In Need, £13.26

I'm so useless at maths that the first time I added it up I made it £48.33, and the second time I made it £48.01. Still not entirely sure, but I prefer the revised version and think I'll go with it since both figures are in the green :)

    £48.01/£70.00 :):)

A lot of this week's result was down to having to (truthfully) tell my husband 'We can't afford 'x' (or 'y', or 'z') this week. I'll get it next week instead', so the coming week will be tight as I'll have to get some x, y and z in (and probably some a, b and c, too. *Sigh...). Nonetheless, if you could put me down for £70 again I'd appreciate it.

    Good luck, everyone!

Thankies for the new thread :)

A busy busy week this week. Meetings in the city on Wednesday, then back to country life until Saturday when I'm off to London to see 30stm.

    My budget will be:
    Wednesday: £8.20 train
    Wednesday: £5 fat club
Saturday: taxi to train station and pre gig munchies £30

Going to round up to £50 again ( I don't think all these meals out are particularly healthy!)

Finished last week at £16.10/£20 :D

    Plans for the week are:

Sun: NSD (no money in my purse so it has to be!)
Mon: Office so couple of quid on tea etc
    Tue: As above
Wed: Home working, should spend less/nothing
Thu: Out for dinner. Up to £30 spend
    Fri: Office so tea spends

I'm going to make my budget £50 for this week and hopefully come in well under that :D
  • Good morning everyone!

Thanks ETO for the new thread. I managed to stick to my budget last week and would like to declare a £ 2.65 spend. This week I'd like to allocate £ 40.00 as I'm off to the Doctor Who Celebration Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'm really looking forward to it so much and will be meeting up with loads of friends, so there'll be dinners to pay for etc. The event tickets and cinema tickets 3D are paid for already so this will be purely spending money.

    Have a great week everyone!

    Cheers
