My attempt at not spending money this weekend included me not leaving the house and sending DH to Ald! with list and £5 off £40 shop coupon from last wks Sunday newspaper. He did incredibly well as the original total came to £40.81!! So proud! Sadly it didn't quite make up for the fact that the microwaved pinged for the last time last night( and we use ours a lot for reheating leftovers) so had to get another today. Went for the value option from Ar9os at £32.99 so not too drastic.
Tomorrow should be NSD if I don't count the cheques for school buses& dinners that I write on a Sunday night. Once the weather changes the kids are definitely going back onto packed lunches.
Off to see what great ideas are available on other threads......Busymumofthreeplusdog......

Shhhhh! wile I was in the bathroom tidying the bottles. I decanted a shower gel that had sat there a long time into a more favoured bottle that was nearly empty. I hid the now empty bottle in the bottom of the bin.
Bet they do not notice.
Wile my bath was running earlier, I washed out the empty shampoo bottle under the running tap.
I had a penny pinching day :0)The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Happy Sunday all and another penny pinching day.
So far.....
washed out a zip plastic bag so can reuse
washing on, it looks like i might get it on the line today!
Checked fridge and moved things around to get eaten.
looked and unplugged = save electric
indoor gardening, take care of plants and dead head some flowers
Dinner = roast chicken, sausages, r.potato and cauliflower cheese. Yorkshire pud.
Craft = still liking patchwork on the sewing machine.
TV off, not to use as background noise
use washable cloth to wipe up small leak in conservatory instead of kitchen roll
play football with puppy on patio - free entertainment. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Wow foxgloves, that's an amazing list! I need to be more like you...

Today's small debt-busting things for me include:- Walking the dog - just makes me feel more positive, and I really don't do it often enough
- I have a lesson to teach this afternoon (all being well with the weather) which will hopefully generate £25

- Food from stores - we were given a huge piece of top-side beef by a good friend who's a butcher, so DH cut in half to freeze and use the other half tonight for tea. Looking forward to a lovely roast :T
- Check online banking
- Update spending diary
- I do need to buy some deodorant as I'm out...
- Will make sandwiches/plan lunch for tomorrow, as I really struggle to think about food in the morning when I'm rushing out of the house
- Check free postcode lottery
- Lots of marking to keep me occupied!!

Afternoon all, having a well deserved lazy day today, so no list of tasks for me! Stayed with bf last night, dropped him off at work then came home with the intention of studying then going back to pick him up later, then back to his as off work again tomorrow.
Sadly though, I've been watching you tube videos all afternoon, and then went to pick up my little brother from his friend's. So studying will have to wait till tomorrow.0 -
Well today hasn't been spend free as we had promised the boys a swimming trip but I don't begrudge them the loss of the SFD - love going swimming with them! Otherwise haven't spent anything. Went for a lovely run this morning, very lucky to live where we do as I can head out in several directions and within 2 mile hit beautiful scenery. Took a couple of photos while I was out running today which I'll post just because I really do think it is beautiful and feel very blessed. have also done some homework with my eldest son which I hope he will be proud of when he is finished. Otherwise a bit of housework (looks a bit like a Chinese laundry in my house from October though to March as hate using the tumble drier unless completely necessary.
Thank you for that list Foxgloves, it has given me several things to try and do here myself.
Sounds like you have been really busy littlepinkstars so probably needed the day you have ended up having!
And now as promised in case any o you are interested the pictures from my run

Afternoon Money Savers,
This morning, mr f & I sat having breakfast in bed & started talking about our city centre shopping trip yesterday. You see, our sizeable debt was not due to misfortune but to spending. We compared what we did yesterday with what we'd have done pre-LBM, & we were amazed how much we'd changed, so I thought I'd use that for my post today:
*Had breakfast before we set off (Would have bought breakfast in town)
*Used loyalty card for a free coffee & shared a cake (would have had whole cake each)
*Took packed lunch with us (would easily have spent £14+ on lunch out)
*Bought clothes we planned to buy. Had to put on credit card in order to use 20% off voucher. Did this, then went straight back to till & asked to pay the cash (which we'd brought from our 'Clothes Piggy') into credit card account. (In the past, I just spent willy-nilly on clothes, would have left those purchases on credit card & then spent all the clothes cash plus more, probably, on something else)
*Looked in 'Monsoon' as have money left on gift card. Decided NOT to be tempted by a cardigan in the sale, as it wasn't near enough to what I wanted (The Old Me would have bought the cardigan because it was reduced by £49 even though it would only have gone with 2 outfits).
*Went in Debenhams for pair of Red Herring jeans which I planned to buy with my Toluna survey gift cards. Did not have the style I wanted. Decided not to waste gift card on a style I didn't like as much (Old Me would have bought another style just to have something new, then barely worn them & had to re-buy the ones I wanted anyway).
*Grocery shop - Stuck fast to list & took opportunity to stock up on a few items we could roll forward to extra meals later in the month (Would have chucked top-end crisps, chocolate, beer, drinks, treats, etc, into the trolley for Saturday night).
*mr f cooked us a really nice meal, both compatible with budget & weight-loss plan (After a full day of shopping & it being a Saturday night, we almost certainly would have sent out for a take-away).
*Got home, unpacked shopping then updated budgets instantly. (Never used to bother budgeting.....couldn't see the point, ironically, as was always overdrawn!)
We decided we might not buy nearly as much stuff, but we both feel much happier with how we are, as well as 'empowered' as we feel we make proper decisions regarding our money rather than letting ourselves get suckered into buying stuff we don't need or isn't quite right, meaning we'd just pay out again to upgrade or change it again later.
If we can change our sloppy attitude towards money, I honestly believe it's possible for anyone.
That's my thought for the day. It's now 31 mins past my time for putting the heating on, so that's my next job.
Have a nice night, all,

Hi All
I like the then & now post Foxgloves, very interesting.
Busymum - Sorry to hear about your microwave going on the blink. No chance of fixing it? Annoying.
Good Advice - I use the same tactics to be honest. A while ago I bought son a tube of orange toothpaste, which was all they had in Lidl I think. Its fine, nothing weird about it, but he didnt really like it. So I bought another one. but then I thought, no hang on, its something that gets used for 6 minutes a day, he can blooming well lump it, so hes using it up & I've had zero complaints since then.
I also keep 1 container of Ben 10 Bathbubbles that I bought him ages ago & top it up with 30p basics bubble bath which I keep in the cupboard. He doesnt know any different.
Have also used up two boxes of cereal that were malingering in the cupboard that he'd chosen then decided he didnt like that way. Just said we werent having a new box till they were eaten. In the end he liked them just fine.
My list for today.
1) Worked all day
2) Husband took little boy swimming, got a £2 discount for showing they are members of the library.
3) Music Magpie emailed me to say they'd verified our payment details (they seem to have so many stages, but hopefully payment is this week)
4) Made sons lunchbox for tommorow.
5) Yesterday I made a tea cosy from some old wool that my mum had once made some clothing for a toy of my son with. Its a bit ugly but I felt really proud of myself reusing something in a useful way, & it really is quite toasty. I've christened it Ron, after Ronald Weasly as its very scruffy
6) Have used up a tube of 'mens' facial scrub which was a thermal one by Gillette, husband wasnt using it, & its been so lovely in the shower. Another item used up & gone.
7) GreasyPalm daily clicks
Think thats it for me today. Day off tommorow horray.
Night all
