Has anyone dealt with Meadow Vale Mobility”

  • Unfortunately, pressure selling, cold calling telephone sales, and charging high prices is not illegal and not a criminal offence. However the practice of calling out of the blue & uninvited on vulnerable and old people, then making a sales pitch out of sight and behind closed doors, relieving you or your family of thousands of pounds should tell you - that whilst not illegal under the law you should question whether anyone should be dealing with this organisation.

Meadow Vale Group is run by Sean Garvin, an Irish national, and Philip Hooley, is British.

Proceed with caution, see the entry by Sally on 17 May 2011, more info here.

  • My father passed away in january 2012, my mother was very vunrable at this time, meadowvale came to advise about a stairlift, after a couple of hours my mother was asked for a deposit, the salesman took her barclays bank card and using her phone managed to take the full payment of £5100 from her account, my mother was very confused at the time! After the promised 2 week delivery time had passed my mother chased them up with no replys, we sent many cancellation letters, registered post, of which none arrived!!
I chased via email, no phone replies, finally Miss Helen Page, a newly appointed director, sent a letter accepting the cancellation letter and promising a good will payment refund within 28 days.
This came and went, now Miss Page isnt even opening my emails to read them.
And no contact can be made.
Im going to have to take them to the small claims court, i will also advise the national media, but getting my mothers money back isnt looking that good.
Please pass this infomation around i cant understand how companys like this still manage to trade after reading all the old and vunrable people there ripping off!!!!

Surely if you haven't received any goods, then it's theft!

  • Hi everyone,
I know this is quite an old link but I have recently had dealings with meadow vale.
They came to see my 83 year old grandma and offered her a new slimline scooter , she paid £500 deposit. she was told she would have her scooter within two weeks, obviously that didnt happen. Its now been over 3 1/2 weeks since the scooter should of turned up and no one at all has been in touch with her or anything. We have tried calling every number on their website all to which do not work, We even called the reps mobile number and no answer.
I have reported them to trading standards and action fraud, i sent a few e-mails and i have finally had a reply from "helen page" which someone did state about earlier, it was quite a snotty email stating they were having problems with their phones and have set up a freephone number and she was suprise that since i checked out their website how i missed it??! so cheeky as I have tried every number on their website and non work...one number goes to a voicemail which i have left a message on! I have just stated that most elderly do not have access to internet and so its not easily accessible and surely sent a generic letter out to their customers explaining what is going on is what a good business would do?!
I have requested a refund as I think they are within breach of contract as the product has not been delivered as promised with no correspondence as to what is happening.

As i said I've reported them to trading standards and action fraud , i have also checked out with the insolvency agency to see if they are in liquidation or anything..and they confirmed they are not.

    ARGHHHHHHHHH SO ANGRYYY!
    sorry for rambling

Thanks for the input hellybobs89, its always a good idea to give feedback of either kind. In this case, as others in this thread, you seem to be just one more poor soul who has fallen foul of this company - giving feedback helps others who come looking for help.

The issue with the 'cooling off' period is often misunderstood. My understanding is the 7 day minimum right to cancel exists because the contract [1974/2008 act] was singed for goods or services with a deposit greater than £35 paid to the trader in your gran's own home.

Keep a careful chronological record of who did what when where when, e-mail / paper / phone calls names and dates etc and the best of luck hellybobs89.

Argh. I missed it. Im gutted too because I've really gone to town on these guys, action fraud have been brilliant and trading standards, after my horrible voicemail on the rep who sold my gran the so called "scooter" Phone he called my gran and begged her not to cancel the order and that they were waiting for a few parts....thats odd because I was told on an email that it was a delay of the container from America!!?:/

GRRR scammers really do annoy me!

Looks like they have bailed out and closed the company with our money :(

as of 1st June 2013,,,see companies house. So what good are the 21 county court judgements against them. seems like the watchdog program was a step too far. the spotlight was too hot.
But with past records watch this space probably be back again. with a new way of heping the elderly :)

    - thanks for letting the group know Tony_The_Ferret

It helps others who may be unwary know about this company and their 'practices', when they, as you suggest, start trading again under a different name.
