If I had a few hundred million or a few billions, I'd most certainly stash most of it in Switzerland's banks, and Lichtenstein - the latter being a very secretive place where BIG accounts are held for the ultra-rich. Those banks have so much capital that they would be the very last to topple after Armageddon.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

  • Diversification is the key. If you have enough money, you are able to have holdings in tax havens. You would have some holdings in equities, bonds, commodities, venture capital, property, antiques, fine art, rare coins and stamps. And you are practically immune from any fluctuations. You will also be rich enough to afford experts to advise you what to do with your money and run it all for you.

Don't worry about the folks on the hill. I'm wondering if any of them have noticed the Credit Crunch.

I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.
  • If I won 7m on the lottery I'd split it up into 14 banks with 500k each. If one of the banks went bust I'd still have 6.5m

There was an article in the Telegraph recently - it seems that people with large balances are being offered better rates to keep their money in...LINK.
  • I agree with the posts regarding stuffing your money into commodities.

I hear quite a lot of people are buying gold with their money at the moment.

Could anybody here explain if and how this is any safer than RBS?

It's not, really. Coutts is actually the private banking part of RBS, which is pretty much the same as NatWest's Private service etc.
    Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.
