ok all! crisis over, its took 3 hours, but i've found the number, and i'm on the phone to them as i type.

for anyone who might find it useful:

0800 316 1012 gets you through to orange broadband customer services, from which they can transfer you to most other depts;)

now lets see what they can offer to keep me with them.....:D

How did you get on? I am currently paying £17.99 with them which appears to have increased from the £14.99 I negogiated a few months ago.

    huh! you may well ask!!!

i had rang in august to cancel, because i was still on the old wanadoo contract at £17.99 a month, and explained that i felt cheated as the new orange customers were only paying £14.99, so i was offered a free month in sept, and my contract reduced to £14.99 a month from oct, and she told me to call back after the end of sept. just had my bank statement, and guess what, they had charged me top whack in september:mad:

anyway, explained this to customer services last night, and was put on hold while he went to sort it out. was on hold for ages, then the call was picked up by technical support:confused: , so i explained what had happened, so the techie guy transferred me back to customer services, and 52 mins later, i was still holding on, so i gave up.

so am going to ring them again later.

    pita or what.

    an update!

got more or less straight through tonight, and the girl in customer services has credited back the september payment. told her i wasnt happy, and was going to look at other providers, and how did i go about cancelling, so she put me through to the cancellations dept. had a long cheerful chat with a guy there, and he is giving me another free month in november, and also giving me a months "cashback" into my current a/c, then he is reducing my monthly payment to £12.99 a month:D from now on, so thats £5 a month saved from the £17.99 a month i was paying in july! so, will stay with them a while longer, and see if they do as they say they are doing.

incidentally, he said that orange will be doing free broadband for payg orange users from next wednesday 25th oct, but he wasnt sure how it was going to be monitored, or how it would work. as i said to him, if you have to top up by £30 a month anyway, you are making a contract to do that anyway, so you're no better off, and maybe worse off if you havnt got all the benefits of a contract phone? it'll be interesting to see how that works.
